    They announced this week ME3 would have a digital comic book like they did for the PS3 version.

    I suppose that's the best way of doing it. Might as well eventually make it available for all four platforms (the ME2 prequel comic can also be used to jump straight into ME2 on Xbox or PC). I still wonder who's gonna buy that game (or AC3, for that matter) for Wii U that isn't already invested in the franchise some other way. It's gonna take the Mario boys a little bit of time to really build credibility as a multiplatform option.

    they don't have to sell that well to make a profit. at least not for ac3. ubisoft said it only takes about a million extra euros to port that game over - they don't even need to sell 100k copies to make a profit. in a couple of years when the other 2 consoles update, ports to the wiiu may cost more but for right now i don't think 3rd parties see it as much of a risk

    Sure, that's all true, but break down the market a little -- who are the potential Wii U buyers of those two games?

    Players who owned one or more of the previous games on another console or PC
    Wii loyalists looking to branch out
    Players who owned one or more of the previous games on a handheld console

    I don't really know how many buys are in this crowd. I guess this kinda is a case of "LOLWIIGRANDMAGAMER!!!!!" but were there really gamers who would have loved to buy into those series but couldn't because they didn't have the console or a gaming PC? Just seems like that number should be microscopic.

    There'll be some buys from people who have the game(s) on PS3 and/or Xbox (I have Rock Band and Mass Effect on both PS3 and Xbox), but it's almost the flip side of that same coin. Are the numbers really gonna be there?

    No, it's not gonna bankrupt Ubi or BW, and that actually wasn't my point in the first place (it was just that these launch-day ports don't automatically make Ninty an attractive option for multiplatforms). The especially interesting thing about this I'm pretty sure AC3 is built on the PS3 in the first place, and ME3 on the 360. It'll make for an interesting graphical comparison. If the Wii U represents comparable graphics to the other consoles' seventh-gen efforts, that could indeed be bad news for future ports from games built on eighth-gen consoles.

    Or it may not. You know those games are gonna have PS3 and 360 ports for at least the first 2 or 3 years the consoles are out, and that may simplify Wii U ports.

    And even if it is the case that it tends to shut the door to further multiplatformers, Ninty's just gonna laugh their way to the bank anyway.

    Something some of you may find interesting, in case you missed it, this last week EA announced it's port of Madden 13 would be missing several of the features of the Xbox and PS3. Specifically it's supposed to sport a new physics engine in the MS/Sony version and will instead use an older engine in the WiiU one. It'll also be missing several online features.

    The problem with the Wii U won't become apparent to the general public until the next gen consoles come out. Sure the Wii U is getting ports of existing Unreal 3 engine driven games, but there's already been discussions out there that Unreal 4 will not work on the Wii U (it's not powerful enough to run it). If UE4 is the backbone of most third party games like UE3 was this generation, then that's a hell of a lot of big games that won't get ported to the Wii U in the new generation.

    I'm considering getting a WiiU for my daughter (she's at that right age that Nintendo characters will really resonate with her, and while I've long moved on from Nintendo, their games were a big part of my early gaming career), so I know that the console will be good for the 1st party Nintendo games.

    However having said that, anyone getting the WiiU as their 'main' console I fear will be highly dissapointed when the 3rd party titles start to dry up once the next gen consoles hit.

    I guess we'll see what happens.
