No One Knows About Persian Cats is a pretty good one that I haven't seen mentioned.

Gotta mentioned HBO's drama, "Treme" too. Yeah it's a TV show but it's damn awesome, half the characters are musicians, actual musicans cameo as themselves and every episode has several live music moments (ranging from songs at huge festivals to some buskers playing on the street).

If we're doing TV shows, then it'd be wrong to not include Flight of the Conchords.

The argument I have for putting it on my list is that dialogue, sound effects, and choreography is edited and synchronized to the backing score and accompanying songs. If it's not explicitly a musical, it's a very long form music video. This makes it more of a music-related movie than my number one pick, Grosse Pointe Blank, which was a black comedy set to a nostalgia soundtrack.

    Well, Christ. In that case:

    1. Aliens
    2. The Fountain
    3. Schindler's List
    4. Poltergeist
    5. The Dark Crystal

    1. Nashville
    2. Cleo From 5 to 7
    3. You, the Living
    4. Swing Time
    5. Wild at Heart

Set my own criteria that in order to be a music movie, the film must be about music, musical performance or performers or contain music as one of its main themes.

I can only think of four at the moment, so:

    1.Global Metal
    2.Metal: A Headbangers Journey
    3.Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage
    4.School of Rock
    5.Across the Universe

Edit: while reading more of the thread I remembered a fifth movie.

Edit: all I need is Flight 666 on my top five and I could be considered an ultimate fan of Sam Dunn.

The fact we're six pages in and nobodies mentioned Streets of Fire yet shows how underrated this film is. By action director Walter Hill, the film bombed during it's theatrical run in 1984. However this is arguably due to the film being so far ahead of it's time. Mixing 50's, punk, and rock, the film blends genre's and becomes truly unique. Most of the music was composed by Jim Steinman and Ry Cooder, giving it a very operatic feel.

The films largest number was I Can ream About You by Dan Hartman. (Absent from the video however)

Other great numbers include Tonight is What it Means to be Young and Nowhere Fast.

I got to thinking and Walter Hill's epic action flick The Warriors also benefits greatly from it's soundtrack. Examples would be the cool cover of Nowhere to Run (Why can't real gangs be this cool?) and the song Love is a Fire. (Never trust chicks that are packed. Even hot dancing ones.)

Oh, and of course Joe Walsh's In the City.

Dammit, now I want Brad Bird (Iron Giant, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, The Incredibles) to direct a musical, just to see what his manic energy can bring to those kinds of sequences.
