My time playing Rock Band has been trending down for quite a while and I saw Blitz as a way to help get me excited about Rock Band again beyond the track pack aspect of it. We still get plenty of DLC if new tracks is all I needed to bring my interest back.
Rock Band trends toward being a rhythm/music simulation game with a score challenge skin. Blitz trends toward being a score challenge game at its core with the skin of a rhythm game. Score challenge games are about the competition with other players more than anything else and Harmonix has decided to integrate (and from everything I am seeing -lock access- to) most of that ongoing dynamic content with a service I will never use.
I'm not standing up on a soap box saying they are wrong. I'm just just saying it is not a good design decision if they want me as a customer. I have spent quite a bit of money on Rock Band and other Harmonix products over the years in part because I had faith in their goals and philosophies as a game company. Think of it along the same lines as people throwing money at DoubleFine's Kickstarter without knowing how good the game will actually be. That is not the kind of support I will give Harmonix if the core of its future game development is based around facebook social gaming. For many people this direction is fine, for me its not.

I hate to say it, but I'm with smitre on this one. I've been onboard since GH1 and get excited every week for DLC, but it's getting harder being one of the last few people I know hanging on. If Maiden wasn't in this pack, I'd pass because I don't like the direction with this and have more DLC than I can ever play. Probably what the brand needs to survive/re-invigorate, but it's not for me. I use FB only because I have to in order to stay informed in certain circles. It's a necessary evil for me. I just don't want FB and my gaming worlds crossing. Not being negative just to be negative, just some initial feelings.
Gah. I never thought i'd say this, but I'm seriously considering passing on a chance to play another Maiden song in RBI'll see what the demo is like because this is no longer a day-1 purchase for me.

As someone who has probably put 30 hours into the game already I can tell you that the Facebook app is nothing to complain about. It's a completely optional and if you don't use it you are losing a part of the game. I do think you should use it though as it is a pretty cool app. As for the "real life and gaming life crossing" why does it matter if the do? And it matters that much to you just make a fake Facebook page. People really need to stop caring what people will think if they see them playing video games because if someone is going to make a stink about you playing video games (this is going to sound cheesy) you shouldn't be friends with that person.

I think the issues are having to use an external service to effectively play the game, and one that revolves around sharing personal information to boot. If this was implemented on this site, I don't think it would be nearly as off-putting to people.

Since I don't use FB, I'm okay with making an account just for some extra coins.
I agree with everyone here about the facebook app being something that adds to the game. I use facebook all the time so maybe I am not the best person to comment on that. I really do enjoy the RB World App though it is a great place to get new goals, get help with said goals, and do some score wars. I also agree with ww1221 I donīt understand why score wars could not be done on the system itself to certain people.
I also do not understand what peopleīs deal is with not wanting people to know you play video games? Why do you play games at all then if you are scared someone will find out, almost as if you were watching porn or something?
I do understand people being scared that someone will spam their facebook page with brags about score wars though. I love that we are going to have new goals to do every week. So, if you take a break from the game for a week or so you will have tons of new goals to accomplish.
I just had a question, were patches or additions into a game free when RB 2 was around? Is that why they could have challenges update in-game as soon as you bought DLC? Why could that not be done for Blitz?
I don't think people care about that aspect actually. It's mostly a privacy/inconvenience issue, and people who don't like it are not necessarily tech-feaful people who think people will steal their souls by using FB. It's more of a principle of the thing. Not everyone is comfortable sharing personal info over FB, even reasonable people, and this seems to punish those who don't in a real way that affects what you can achieve in the game. Make XBL and PSN display your real name and info as your gamertag, and people would not be happy. Heck if we had to use our real names as handles here or were forced to have those visible, there would be a lot of complaints.
