    The cyberspace hunt

1-0-0-1-0-0-1 SOS! Robots have infiltrated Harmonix headquarters. Help us stop them by playing songs that have to do with computers and machines.

Bad Religion - "(21st Century) Digital Boy
    Bush - "Machine Head"
The Flaming Lips - "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots pt 1"
Judas Priest - "The Hellion/Electric Eye"
    Rush - "The Camera Eye"

I want to add in Oingo Boingo's Weird Science but it seems like a stretch.
I never thought a game would be able to inspire the formation of a real band or strengthen friendships. Thank you Harmonix, for making Rock Band.

It did take me a while though, as I wanted 10 songs by 10 different artists. I had trouble with Jimi having at least 4 prominent ones. (Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) and All Along the Watch Tower(though I don't consider that a riff based song).
I see. Your description however says that it's just about instantly recognizable riffs. Anyone who has heard Spirit of Radio can normally recognize it before the riff repeats.

I can, but it took 3-4 times hearing the song on the radio about 3 years ago. Most people I know can't, but could recognise almost every other song on there (The Trooper being the other one, since most of my friends don't listen to much metal).

Basically, I didn't go off of just what I felt was recognizable, which is why I consulted several lists.

    Huntmonix (Scavenger)

The members of the Harmonix team play in some awesome bands. Celebrate all the great things that Harmonix has done over the years by finding these songs featuring Harmonix staff members!

The Acro-Brats - Day Late, Dollar Short
Bang Camaro - Push Push (Lady Lightning)
Death of the Cool - Everything I Hate About Myself
    Freezepop - sprøde
The Main Drag - Don't Let Me Down (Slowly)
Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Where'd You Go?
    The Sterns - Supreme Girl
That Handsome Devil - Rob the Prez-O-Dent
    Tijuana Sweetheart - Trash Candy

    Le Canadian Goal, Eh? (Scavenger)

Canadians. Sure, they're not allowed to win contests and they have to have everything in both English and French, but they also make very good music. Find these songs performed by Canadians and forget that they stuck us with Celine Dion.

    Alanis Morrissette - Ironic
    Barenaked Ladies - One Week
Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
The Guess Who - American Woman
    Metric - Combat Baby
    New Pornographers - Electric Version
Nickelback - How You Remind Me
Rush - Tom Sawyer (Original Version)
    Sum 41 - Fat Lip
Tegan and Sara - The Con
Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become

And yeah, Nickelback are totally in there! Nickelback is Canada's way of exacting revenge on the fact that we can't enter your contests.

    Bass Solos
Bass doesn't usually get a chance to shine, but when it does, it is AWESOME! [5 Star/Gold Star/whatever] these songs which have solos charted on bass! [It is optional to HMX whether it has to be done on bass or not.]

You Should Be Dancing by the BeeGees
    Starship Trooper by Yes
By The Way by Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Gold Cobra by Limp Bizkit
    Caravan by Rush
Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden
    Spoonman by Soundgarden
Still of the Night by Whitesnake

Special thanks to Rachycakez (et al.) for keeping a list I used for these songs. I only listed "official" songs.
