I consulted like 12 different "Best Riff" lists, on none of them (even top 100) did any rush song appear.

On the other hand, people hold up lighters and chant "Freebird" at concerts regularly even if they aren't Skynyrd concerts.

It did take me a while though, as I wanted 10 songs by 10 different artists. I had trouble with Jimi having at least 4 prominent ones. (Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) and All Along the Watch Tower(though I don't consider that a riff based song).

I see. Your description however says that it's just about instantly recognizable riffs. Anyone who has heard Spirit of Radio can normally recognize it before the riff repeats.

I can, but it took 3-4 times hearing the song on the radio about 3 years ago. Most people I know can't, but could recognise almost every other song on there (The Trooper being the other one, since most of my friends don't listen to much metal).

Basically, I didn't go off of just what I felt was recognizable, which is why I consulted several lists.

Bass Solos
Bass doesn't usually get a chance to shine, but when it does, it is AWESOME! [5 Star/Gold Star/whatever] these songs which have solos charted on bass! [It is optional to HMX whether it has to be done on bass or not.]
