I'm a PS3 player, and default is a distant 4th among the 4 options for me.

    For me, on DS3:

    Freakish > Shoulders > Typewriter >>>> Default

The day before it became available on Xbox I downloaded the demo onto my PS3 to play with and chose "Freakish" there too.

having played the demo on PS3 and buying it on 360 I played with shoulders on both. I don't like the mushy-ness of the shoulders on the PS3 so I'm glad I have all of my DLC on the 360.

Shoulders was just the scheme that looked to be the most natural for me.
We've ended on a sour note:

Well I already voted as I was certain I would be sticking with Typewriter, but after reading a comment on one of iamchris4life's videos about his control setup, I decided to give Freakish another shot as I never really thought of the benefits of being able to use both the bumpers and triggers during certain fast parts. I stand by what I said about it being more tiring imo, but having the triggers available really helps a lot in songs with fast bass drum parts or fast triplets on any instrument. The Serpentine Offering by Dimmu Borgir is a prime example.

I never thought of using the bumpers/triggers for double shots. I honestly don't think my brain could handle that, lol. Anyways, after trying the other settings I am still sticking with Default. I'm happy with my current scores. I might give this a try someime, though.

I prefer Default over Freakish. When a fast passage of notes on 1 lane comes up, I can turn my arm so my wrist does most of the pressing of the A button or D-pad. I can't get that leverage with my index finger.
I also like tapping both the triggers and bumpers to fly from drums to keys very quickly.

i use shoulders, mainly cos i never use the ps3 controller since i only used my ps3 for blu-rays and rock band so i never spent any time using the controller for the games so my hands were not used to it and then i started to play blitz about 5-8 hours a day and my thumbs did not cope so i switched to shoulders and it has mainly fixed the problem, freakish seems impossible to play effectively, i am guessing that most freakish players are on xbox seeing as freakish on the ps3 controller seems very bad to play well.

I chose "Freakish" on both the Xbox and PS3 (for the brief time that I played the demo on it) because I play other games and I'm used to moving left and right with the sticks.

Freakish is the most comfortable for me. I'm on PS3.

When I first got the game, I tried playing on the default settings for a week or so, and it was frustrating. Playing all of the notes with one thumb is awkward.

Freakish, on the other hand, offers the closest control scheme to how I played Frequency and Amplitude (with the shoulder buttons), so it feels the most natural to me. I've had no problem getting gold stars ever since!
