Yeah, I'd definitely recommend Blast Notes generally over Flame Notes unless you're really good at the game (in which case you probably wouldn't be having trouble with it in the first place.) You have to have Jackpot running while you're chasing Flame Notes in order to make the payoff worthwhile, and it can be frustratingly easy to get flustered and break combo when you have to quickly switch lanes. Plus, Blast Notes make it much easier to keep all of the multipliers up, letting you focus on your Super. It can sometimes be tough to keep the multipliers up with Flame Notes unless you're really comfortable with the song, especially since you have to be willing to abandon a lane any time you see a Flame Note appear.

Looking back at Facebook, I only played this song once with powerups and I would have been using Road Rage/Blast Notes/Super Guitar, and it looks like I barely squeaked out the Gold Star. I haven't played it since. I suspect switching Road Rage for Jackpot like Zage suggested would be a lock.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give it Away is between 278,154 and 278,194, as I found here, between 4:45 and 4:46.

    Edit:

Also for Foo Fighters - These Days, I'm 99% positive it's 330,527 +/- 10. According to this vid, it golds during a sustain at 4:43. One frame shows the stars white at that score, and the next frame the stars changed to gold without the score changing.

Fall Out Boy: 159,332-159,432 as seen here at 2:30.

Foster the People: 195,397 as seen here at 3:36.

Played "Death On Two Legs" again. According to this thread, I missed gold stars by roughly a hundred and fifty points.

    C'mon!!

Shout is the only song I have yet to GS.

I just played it and made it a bit over 483,000.

So close and yet so far.

    One more try.

    487,000.

This is getting less and less funny.

    Perhaps one final try.
