Definitely. The game is certainly a balancing act between how technically skilled a player is mechanically and the powerups that maximize the score within that skill set. So far I've only used pinball to get the trophy and to cheese those RBN piano songs to boost my career score. Right now I'm just focusing on playing everything once and gold-starring as many as possible on the first try, which for me usually means Road Rage/Blast Notes/Super Guitar, subbing out Road Rage for Jackpot when it's obviously warranted.
I suspect that most "mere mortals" like me will have the best success on a given song with RR/BN/SG, on average. As I play more and start trying to improve existing scores, I have a feeling I'm going to be working toward using Jackpot more often, but for now, the help that Road Rage provides with keeping multipliers up is invaluable on "sight reads." I'm just not quite at the point yet where I feel comfortable jumping around lanes with Jackpot active, although I am getting better at it. I've found that Road Rage has also helped me keep Blitz mode active longer for the same reason.
But I'm interested in experimenting with pinball once I've played all of my songs. I think I did use it once on an Avenged Sevenfold song and it seemed to give way more bonus than I was getting with other powerups, but that was a long time ago and I've gotten much more efficient hitting Blast Notes since then. I have a feeling I will make too many mistakes and get too distracted with the pinball active, but it'll be interesting to try it out later.
I'm just going to say this now as a Blitz player who GS'd Child in Time and most songs mentioned in this thread.
The Complexity of Light is preventing me from getting 300/300 GSs. It's by far the hardest song to GS that i've played, and uSound (one of the 3 people who GS'd it agrees that it's arguably as hard if not harder than Homecoming). He only managed to GS it by FCing the drum solo in the beginning which takes a lot of skill to begin with, and I don't think it's possible to do it on Defaut control scheme which is the only mode I can play on.
I got over 93-95% on the drum solo and hardly missed a note for the rest of the song with near optimal pathing and still fell short of the cut-off, and I know that 2 of the GS scores either happened in the finale bonus or just it it before the finale bonus.
The 1st TWO checkpoints is IMPOSSIBLE to get to +3. The 1st checkpoint can only net you +1, then you have a lengthy drum solo with difficult rolls near the end. The 2nd checkpoint is impossible to hit every vocal note unless you use Road Rage, but using Road Rage will screw you over for the 2nd half. It doesn't help that most of the notes in the chart happen within the first few minutes and the 2nd half is fairly slow.
I just BARELY missed the cut-off with a very good run so It will take a lot of luck for me to get, but I will still try.

Okay I just played Riptide Resort by Freen in Green and it had the double solo issue that Thief In The Night have, just without the note rain outside of those to make up for it. Got 4 stars on my sightread and could possibly be pretty hard to GS from the looks of it.
Anybody try any of the following? I'm trying these with Jackpot, Blast Notes, and Super Guitar.
Evile - Hundred Wrathful Dieties
Van Fricia - Epic Symphony in A Flat Minor, Second Movement
Rodrigo y Gabriela - Buster Voodoo
bibleblack - I Am Legion
Solution .45 - Lethean Tears
Gatling - Nihilanth
Between The Buried And Me - Obfuscation
Devin Townsend - By Your Command
Deep Purple - Child In Time
The ones I've bolded are the ones I've gotten. I don't have the other songs though but from what I've heard, they are all difficult.
Buster Voodoo is by far the easiest. Just use Bandmate/Flame Notes, you should GS it with your eyes close.
Obfuscation isn't that difficult to GS. Just make sure you level up all the vocal notes because it's easy to mess up a checkpoint gate or two for ignoring them. Use Super Guitar/Blast Notes/Jackpot.
Child in Time is a complete pain to get, even if you 100% the guitar and Keys track. Use Super Guitar/Flame Notes/Jackpot. I'm convinced that the gold star on that song is literally unobtainable with any other combo.
From what I've heard By Your Command and Nihilanth are nearly impossible to GS.

The hardest songs for me to GS (though I have GS'd them) are Cult of Personality (TOOK 35 TRIES), Diamond Eyes (Keys always threw me off), Spoonman (No idea why really, just was), and Bang Your Head (same as Spoonman)
I used to use Bandmate + Blast Notes + Super, but then it I started to use Jackpot, and it's SO MUCH BETTER.
(Note, I only have about 35 songs as DLC, so I'm just including the Blitz songs in this list)
