Probably not. But maybe I could get away with a gender-swapped version of whatever female characters I'd want to do. Maybe.

I love COSPLAY that's done well (while stuff like Nigri is, obviously, fun to look at, it's usually terrible-to-mediocre COSPLAY design :P). The amount of work those people put into their outfits is staggering.

I'll have to look up some links at home, but the most recent ones I can think up are from some D3 COSPLAY.

Personally, though, I have neither the talent, the will, nor the desire to COSPLAY. Kudos to those who do.

What possible reason could they have to be so restrictive?

At Los Angeles' own Comikaze Expo, I saw this really cute couple dressed as Mario and Lugi.
...okay, so it's my girlfriend and I. We're still cute, though!

My wife actually has a jumpsuit like the one from Kill Bill. That's about as far as it really goes for us.

**** that noise, do it anyway.
Anyone who says that you can or should only cosplay if you fit a certain body type is stupid, and should not be allowed at conventions or expos.
The point of cosplay is to have fun playing dress up. And if anyone wants to rain on you for not looking exactly like Deadpool or Amanda Waller, then just gut them like a fish.
...okay, maybe don't take it that far. But definitely do not give haters the time of day and have fun in your cosplay.

That's a bunch of baloney, too. My girlfriend and I pieced together our costumes with items from thrift stores, big and tall shops, and party supply stores. And we wore our costumes to Wondercon and Comikaze. These are not small shows. They are filled with really good looking costumes.
And you know what? People on the convention floor loved us. We had so many people stop us and ask for pictures of us, and with them.

Cosplay isn't about having a certain body type, or even having the perfect costume. It's about having fun and loving what you do

League of Legends always brings out some really clever/elaborate cosplayers where it is present.

Here is one of my favorites:
