Is it even possible to buy a new RB2 guitar anymore?

    If so, where?

Over the last six months or so, I've been checking various stores both online and retail (Best Buy, K-Mart, Walmart, GameStop, Amazon, etc.) trying to find a new Rock Band 2 Guitar for my PS3. My current guitar still works, even though the whammy squeaks like crazy, but I'm afraid of what might happen if it should ever break on me (one that I had before did, which I needed to send in for a replacement.)

I've asked some of the employees if they even sell them, and they typically say that they haven't had them in stock in years. Meanwhile, I will occasionally see Guitar Hero guitars overpriced at some stores, but I absolutely hate the clicky-clack of the GH strum bar, so I won't even consider those.

For a game that's still alive and well (even if weekly DLC has dropped from 10 songs a week to a mere 3 - it's still getting DLC regardless) it would really suck if suddenly the guitar should break and no way to continue playing -- Especially for those of us who've literally spent over $1,000 on DLC since 2007.

The RB3 guitars will work in RB1/2. They're the same guitar as the RB2 version, just newer.

As far as I'm aware, they didn't release any Rock Band 3 guitars with the standard green/red/yellow/blue/orange buttons. The only guitars that came out with Rock Band 3 were the Mustang (102 buttons shaped like strings) and the Squier (real strings.) I already have a Mustang, which I know I can use like a standard button guitar, but it's just not as easy for me as using the ones with the huge buttons.

I guess a Rock Band 1 guitar is an option, but I had one before (that's the one that broke and I needed to have replaced) and I wasn't too thrilled with the audible noise you could hear from pressing the buttons. I liked how the RB2 guitar was almost silent to play.

Why do you need new, when the used market is flooded with them?

I understand wanting to buy new if you're buying it as a gift for someone ... but if you're just getting yourself a standby replacement, one that was used by someone who doesn't play the game anymore should suffice.

I've bought one (Well, an RB1 wireless) used for 99 cents. I've declined the opportunity to get one for $10ish on multiple occasions.

'They' did (Madcatz being the They). Wii and PS3 ones in red and light-blue, with no effects switch. The Xbox360 ones were black and still had effects switches.

Here's the Wii Red GRYBO RB3 guitar:

I found this ...... about 3 minutes too late as I was investigating if it was available through the MadCatz website.

I'd be hesitant to buy a used one. These things wear down over time, and I would think that a primary reason to buy another guitar would be to reset the clock on that.

Incidentally, how awkward is the Mustang for playing 5-button standard guitar? If it's not that bad I might buy one

I never buy used. Ever. EVER. EVEEEER (Booming echo.) I just don't. From my games to my car and everything in between, if it's not new, I don't want it.

I did see that guitar you're talking about, sillystou, but I'm not sure about it considering it's made by MadCrapz, who aren't exactly the poster boys for quality products.

Well considering MadCatz became the official hardware manufacturer before RB3 was released, I'd reconsider. That and they have seemed to improve quality-wise since taking on RB.
