Yeah, that statement is wrong. I would change it into
"Welcome to real life"
Just because internet is a dangerous place it doesn't mean that real live isn't. Jerks are in real life too. The only difference is that they're not anonymous, and in the Internet they can truly be theirselves, without worrying at people pointing fingers at them, criticizing for a bad behaviour.
I think that mereley 20% of the internet users are trolls/fake that go around being jerks just for fun.
And I do believe that in the internet there's a considerable number of people that would love watching a video where you barf.

No pro upgrades . All the great songs that are already part of Rock Band library unupgraded never to be upgraded now there's even more. There is almost no complaining or fist shaking or turning into the incredible hulk by those that bought the more expensive guitars. Now we must be kinder and gentle towards the game makers who care about the poor who can't afford instruments at all.
D.C.3 touring in the podcast, blitz also brought some income and then there was that settlement that was huge, your having a great year and your all nice and good. And some of you are extra good and nice.
Maybe they will develop triggers for our thighs and soles of our shoes so we can tap our feet and slap our thighs to the songs in an arcade style hillbilly poarch setting game. Nice to write with you today. You all have a nice day today.
I like being nice, oh the liquor store is open soon and there is a line up. I will go be nice to those people and see if they will be nice too.
Chord numbering and breakneck speed made me play better.
I appreciate the sentiment so thanks OP.
We here are indeed much better than many web forums and I am old and grizzled enough to have had the job of moderating on several. If you grade on a curve we do quite well however no group can ever be too polite or too considerate.
All that being said, we as a moderation team can ALWAYS use an extra set of eyes and if anyone sees anything that crosses lines or breaks rules PLEASE use the report a post function. It just takes a second and while we see who is reporting, no one else does so from a global perspective, you are anonymous.
Help us help keep the community a safe, fun and friendly place to exchange ideas.
There are WAY more of you than there are of us.![]()
Honestly, the thing that bugs me and deters me the least about this community is not the people who complain about DLC or the people who break the forum rules. I feel the former is justified (usually) and the latter is somewhat rare and well-controlled.
I'm more annoyed by the people who are afraid of legitimate discussion, stifling the of everyone who is not 100% pro-HMX. Real discussion happens so rarely here, it's boring. It ends up seeding out anyone who isn't fine with talking about nothing 100% of the time.
Whenever anyone says anything remotely "controversial", all we get is...
1) Really happy people going "oh noez, let's not hert the HMX's feelings, you so mean"
2) Really angry people going "you're an idiot, shut up"
3) Really annoying people going "let's talk about something else"
How about we go "I think this", "oh, well, I think this" and then we can actually have some progress in terms of content. I have almost no desire to go on here anymore because all the threads are "List of songs that have a blue note in them" and "these are the RBN songs that are coming out in 2 years, maybe" and "what's the happiest thought you had today?" and there's nothing to talk about.
I am by no means permitting unruly behavior, but if we spent less time trying to make the community this perfect, unified, unwavering embodiment of satisfaction, we could at least take in some differing opinions and discuss them with open minds and a goal of progress.
I've always thought that this good message should be interpreted as "your opinions are just as valid as anyone else's, hear them out and you both may learn something" rather than "don't say your opinion, unless it's a happy opinion, and if you're complaining about something, it's your fault because a negative opinion is an invalid opinion"

Sadly, it's more of an acceptance that people on the internet will be jerks because of the level of anonymity it provides. It doesn't help that the internet is a melting pot of all kinds of people, including naturally abrasive folks and folks who are (possibly overly) sensitive, and we're all sorta thrown into an arena where occasionally we're told to play nice with few real consequences if we don't.
Generally, the comment, at least when I use it, isn't a "just accept it" response as much as a "You have to expect it on some level". Even on moderated forums, folks will argue and disagree about things, and even when following the rules perfectly, there's a chance someone's feelings will get hurt. It's part of learning what to expect when you offer yourself out there publicly.
Generally, the two really hot button issues are politics and religion, but music seems to be #3 IMHO. You get folks who think their opinions are the only ones who matter, you get folks who's personal attachment to a band makes them take any criticism of that band personally, you get the musical snobbery of "if it's popular, it's garbage", let alone 50 different genres of metal, each of which is the One True Metal to it's fans.
The fact that folks on this forum are able to generally talk civilly and mostly get along as a community because of a video game is pretty amazing if you think about it.

No community is perfect. Forgive me if i offend anyone. As someone who was a former Guitar Hero only player. The difference in communities is HUGE. This one tends to be a lot more childish, and the Guitar Hero one is filled with elitist *censor* ermrghrd *censor* *censor*. Both communities had/have haters and even with DLC, you can't please everyone. I know for a while there the thought in my head more DLC divides a community and it really does, just look at how the green day DLC was received.
I co-admin a music game group with my gf on Facebook, a little over 100 members last i seen. Small yeah, facebook (i know it isnt much) yeah. It isnt the most exciting thing in the world. i had a few members complain about the green day DLC and a lot of the explanations that were given are in the OP.
My point being, no community is ever perfect and if it is then there is something wrong with it. They will still whine and complain about DLC and other factors. It's hard to please everyone, Harmonix i think has said this at one point (or was it Ubisoft, i dunno). Just be happy you are playing a game that is still being supported with weekly DLC. That's more than most other titles.

That's still 20% more than there should be. This whole "it's the internet, it doesn't matter" attitude might have made sense in 1995 when the web was still kind of a new thing and nameless, faceless, anonymous personae were encouraged, but I don't get why that mindset persists in 2012 where everybody has their personal stuff all over Facebook and not having the internet is like not having a phone. Even here, I use my real name and a lot of other people use pictures of themselves as avatars. People who act like douche bags just for fun are still being douche bags.
This place is all right. Sure, you got a few people who spout out the same tired complaints so much that you wonder what they're still doing here, but it's easy to let those people distort your view of the community as a whole. It doesn't help that the people who are wrong are the easiest to respond to, making it look even more like they represent the community as a whole (and, yes, that means people like me are part of the problem. Sorry). But then you get weeks like when "Drive" was the only song released that week. Harmonix took a few steps to make sure people don't freak out and declare the game to be dead, and for the most part it actually worked.
