Actually that wouldn't be entirely crazy at all. If you were planning on having a game only function online, but you also didn't want to lock people out of actually playing it down the road when most of the world has moved on, this would be a viable solution. I can't think of any way it wouldn't still require a patch, but that patch could already pretty much be in the can and they're just planning to release it whenever the appropriate time comes (hopefully a LONG time down the road.)
It's perfectly understandable why they want to keep everybody online as long as possible, but I sincerely hope that eventually the offline mode will resemble the core Rock Band games with local score tracking.
If this was an issue with a local save file we likely wouldn't have been able to correct it at all.
Worrying about what might happen 5-6 years in the future is a good way to make sure that you don't enjoy things as much right now. We've had the RB1 servers up since launch 5 years ago, and we had Chicken Littles worrying that we'd pull those down as soon as RB2 launched. I think the next console generation could change how a lot of devs approach servers for their legacy titles, but for the foreseeable future I don't believe we have any plans to shut Blitz servers down. So just enjoy the game and we'll tell you if there's ever a reason to worry.![]()
Hank, I'm not talking about a decision HMX is gonna make. I'm talking about when the PSN servers/XBL servers no longer function at all. When we can no longer log into our GT's and PSN names. Maybe 5-6 years is too short an estimate (it'll probably be that long after the PS4 and Xbox 720 come out, so maybe more like 7 or 8 years), but while the core RB games will still totally work when that dark day that's coming way sooner than any of us want to admit does indeed come, Blitz on the other hand will be irreparably broken.
Yes, this is what I meant. It's likely that the issue would have happened regardless of how the save data was handled because the game would have to ping data back to the servers at some point.
I know, I understood. I just don't know how useful it is it to wonder / worry about what may or may not happen with servers or the next console generation or online gaming as a whole or whether or not the world is going to end. I'm very much of the "we'll cross that bridge when we get to it" mindset rather than the "we may only have X number of years to enjoy this thing" mindset. Who knows how different things will be in 5+ years?
soooo, later this summer?
my love is like a candle, if you forget me, i will burn your damn house down.
