Got an HD TV -- What's the best way to split the audio into a speaker system?

I've gotten so used to having the Red/White/Yellow cords and just putting the red and white ones (audio) into my speaker system. The HDMI cables carry the audio and video in through one cord.

Are there any good splitters I can use?

My TV is 720p and my speaker system supports 5.1 channel audio (though I've only ever used two channel audio, I think, considering the adapter connects, by default, to red and white A/V cables, but there is a pink, block, and green set of plugins that go into that adapter, and I don't know what they can be used for)

I want minimal lag, but optimal quality (or some good compromise of the two).

Is there a good HDMI/audio splitter? Or would component cables work?

My TV has no audio or video out.
    meh

Are you on Xbox or PS3? I don't know anything about Xbox, but on PS3, you can send only video out through HDMI and send the audio out through the regular Red/White (RCA) cables.

This is what I do for temporary play in the den or hooking up to my headset. Makes a quick hook-up to a set of PC speakers/ sub woofer combo.

On my main setup I use the digital out to a receiver and multi-output the sound or send it only to digital.

Mine was an official MS one too, it's been quite useful now that I play Rocksmith so lag is cut down.

If the one you linked to works fine, that is a HECK of a good deal. I think the official one was like 30 bucks?

Get an AVR and some speakers.

Like a Yamaha 671 and a pair of polk monitor 60s.

The AVR will do all of the audio and video routing.
So you plug it all into the AVR (cable tv, DVDs, wiis, ps3s, etc.)

I discovered that with the component cable that came with my Xbox slim, the only reason it doesn't work with an HDMI cable is that they molded it with a big block of plastic that blocks the HDMI port. I broke that sucker off, plugged it and an HDMI in, ran the HDMI to the tv and the red/white audio to the receiver, and presto it all works.
