No CGI? At all? Imagine any movie from the past 15 years without CGI. It would suck. It would destroy the immersion and limit the possibilities of what could be done in the movie

    Not exactly. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tree_of_Life_(film)

If 2001: A Space Oddyssey can get away without CGI, so can Star Wars.

No CGI, as in the majority of the original Star Wars films? Yeah, those were lousy since they had so little CGI...

Those effects took much more time to create and weren't nearly as good. Yes, they were good for the time, but...no CGI? That's just silly. It wouldn't look "classic," it would look outdated. In this day and age, an action movie needs CGI. What were the last ten movies you saw? They all had CGI. Even Brokeback Mountain had CGI. It's not a movie killer, but it's also not a movie savior. It's a tool, and tools can be used right or wrong.

Also, getting back to the comparison to James Bond, Dr. No had no CGI, Skyfall had lots of it. It wasn't ruined because of computers, if anything it made it exponentially better.

I'd be happy if the CGI was kept to a bare minimum, but it probably won't be. Like I said before, the original trilogy looks more realistic to me than the prequels precisely because of that outdated look; the Star Wars universe is a gritty, grainy one. Yoda's CGI form looks exaggerated and fake next to his original puppet.

CGI kept to a bare minimum? It's not a pet project anymore, it's a million-dollar franchise. They're going to give it their all to make it look good. And it probably won't hit the uncanny valley again, but to work towards it is better than to not try at all.

I'd prefer it if they used all that money to further the spirit of the Star Wars canon. Bring back the Jim Henson puppets. Alas.
