You do not have to re-buy the song. The Pro upgrade is a separate file that is downloaded and added in by RB3.
My suspicion is that the upgrade is already downloaded and installed, it's just not unlocked until you pay for it.

Nope. Older DLC has gotten upgrades, including two launch-day songs. So unless you think "My Sharona" and "...And Justice For All" had pro guitar charts sitting in their files for 3+ years (before pro guitar was even a thing), that's not how it works. Similar situation for the two Green Day songs, they were upgraded after 2 years.

And, well...people would find "ways" around having to pay, too, if that were the case.

If anyone wants to play PG/PB, yes. Not to play the song at all, as some would have you believe.

And I heard on xbox, if someone has pro upgrades in the band, and someone don't, you won't be able to play them. It's fine on PS3 though. (Can't confirm what I say on xbox, I don't play on xbox, I just read this some time ago on the forums)

How's it feel to be wrong?

The animations show people playing the bass and guitar with the proper chords, suggesting that the data IS already coded in the song. The upgrade files are all the exact same size, and really small, right? Just like so many other files that act as a swtich, allowing you to turn your demo version into the fully-featured game instantly, on so many other titles?

    So maybe he wasn't wrong.

No, they don't. C'mon, think about it - RBN songs have animations, too. Are pro guitar charts hiding in every RBN song, too? And how exactly did you arrive at the animations "show[ing] people playing the bass and guitar with the proper chords" anyway?

The download is small because the core song already has just about all of what's needed -- that being the guitar and bass stems to match note gems to and cut out if you miss.

Charts aren't based on the animations. I thought this argument was already debunked when everyone and their mom started claiming that pro drums charts were linked to the animations and Harmonix said that this isn't the case (which explains the pro drums-less early RBN).

And if this was the case, just about every pro guitar chart would be incredibly incorrect, because the hand animations of the guitarist and bassist aren't correct.

I don't believe that the pro guitar/bass charts were already there, however, kinda strange that they ALL do 100kb.
