any way to connect the Yamaha DXT400K to RB?

Hi, I've been out of the RB drumming thing for a while but was thinking about getting an electronic kit and connecting it to my 360. The DTX400K is pretty compelling for the price, but it looks like there's no reasonable way to connect this to the 360 via any of the existing adapters as it just has a USB output and not a 5 pin MIDI output. Is this correct, or is there some solution out there that can take the USB data sent from the 400 and translate it into normal MIDI data in a low-latency way? If I need to use my laptop (MacBook Pro) to do the translation that's OK as long as there isn't noticeable latency in the signal chain. Thoughts?

The only way would be to use a computer to get the MIDI out, people found a way with the keyboard because most of the recent keyboards just have USB MIDI. Basically, you plug it in your computer, you use a program to map the MIDI to a MIDI out (or USB to MIDI cable if you don't have a MIDI out) then into the adapter. It works for a keyboard, so it should for a e-drum kit too. I don't know about the latency though, but I saw guides on the internet for keyboards, so it should be fine. Probably just a tweak in RB's calibration.

I would honestly step up to the DTX500K if you haven't already bought the DTX400K. Musician's Friend lists it as discontinued, but other stores still have it. It's only $100 more than the DTX400K, and has the 5 pin MIDI output.

Is the 500k really an upgrade from the 400k? Have you felt the cymbals on both? The 500k seems to have a smarter drum brain which is nice for future proofing, but it is also important that it's fun to play now.

I actually haven't played the 400K, and have only played the 500K in stores. I'm going by specs here. In addition to the less dumbed-down module, the 500K uses a sturdier rack, bigger drum pads, and real bass pedal and trigger.

The 400K is made to compete with the bottom-barrel stuff. The 500K was originally the "better" entry-level kit.

They're really sneaky now. They seem to have replaced the 500K with the 430K and 450K - which use the 400 module that only has MIDI-over-USB, but at least have the real bass pedal.

If you want the 500 module, you have to pay for the 520K with upgraded pads.

you could use your MacBook pro with garageband...

    OR...

you could just plug the drum pad into "ion drum module"
