DLC for Wii costs $US3 in Australia

This has annoyed me for a while now, every time I see HMX saying that tracks are "$US2.00" each for the wii. Given the current exchange rate, and Nintendo charging $15 per 1000 points, Australians are in reality paying just over $US3 per DLC track.

Why are we paying 50% more than people in the US?

Really HMX, you should change your text to say that DLC costs 200 WII points and leave it at that, currently you're quite wrong.

    regards, Anthony

"Harmonix doesn't care about Wii people." - Kanye West

In all seriousness, I think it's because very little of the Rock Band market is in Australia. Does Australia even get access to the RBN?

The $ is there because that's how it says it on the PS store, has nothing to do with Wii

The exchange rates between Australia and the US is near identical, but Australia has a weird 50% tax on video games

    No idea why

    Also, it's more like $3.20.

Not true. Check out the latest official DLC post, linked from the front page - down the bottom it says quite clearly:

"These tracks will be available for $1.99 each on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and $2.00 on Wii."

Just like every other official DLC post that I've seen...

PS3 Australian store is also way more expensive than UK store, .99 pence for a song compared to $2.45 and the conversion rate for .99 pence is just over $1.50 australian. I set up a uk account on ps3 and buy psn uk cards online but i'm not sure if you can do the same thing on wii or not.

Not in the example she listed, so you must not have seen every post.

Are you new to Australia? :P

This really has nothing to do with Harmonix, and everything to do with what Nintendo charges for their points. Harmonix has set their price point, and it's up to Nintendo to determine what that's going to be worth in AUD.

As with all video games (and most things in general), we're getting ridiculously overcharged given our current economic position. Same as games retailing for $100 here, and $60 in the US. There's a middleman somewhere making a fortune right now.

If you shop around online, you'll probably be able to find cheaper Wii points on sale. At least, that's what I do on 360. Just make sure you're buying ones compatible with Australia.

Interesting point I hadn't realised before, is that each console has a different price for songs in different countries. Sounds like in Australia it's PS3 the cheapest ($2.45), then Xbox ($2.66), then Wii the most expensive ($3.20).
