So launch day could be in 2018, and they'd have dev kits now?

Well, for all we really know, it could be that long.

I've kinda forgotten what we're arguing about here. I'm just gonna drop it ;\

Just FYI until MS and Sony announce the new consoles (and I"m laying my money down at E3 2013 with a release date of Nov 2013), then none of the publishers can talk about making new games.

However I watch and read a lot of video game coverage and there's been multiple reports from devs that they have next gen dev kits and are deep in development on next gen stuff.

I don't know for sure that PS4 will launch in 2013 since it came out a year later than the 360, but I'd almost guarantee that the neXtBox will be Nov 13, and I can't imagine Sony can afford to let MS get another year head start on them next gen.

More evidence of the next gen :

Notice that there are a TON of triple A games hitting in the first quarter of 2013? Yeah we usually get some, but there's a lot. Games that you would expect to be holiday games. They're getting them out now before the next gen is announced in fear that sales will take a hit if they release them at the same time as the new consoles.

Go look at trailers for Star Wars 1313, and Watch Dogs. There is NO WAY those are running on current gen consoles looking like that, and when asked about what consoles they are being released for, the dev's just gave a coy 'all of them' answer.

Also there's already vids out for Unreal Engine 4 (which is known to be the engine for the next gen consoles as it won't run on current consoles), and Square has a tech demo for next gen consoles called Agni's Philosophy.

So next gen is almost on us, even if the console manufacturers aren't willing to admit it yet.

I think RB4 as a launch title for next gen consoles would be a brilliant way to get in on the ground floor of the next gen and be one of the few games on the market to inflate sales. Perhaps even do a current gen version, but also a next gen version as well

HMX tends to hold off on news until they are 99.9% certain so I doubt we'll get much in terms of official hints and teases for next year.

My hunch is that DLC will continue, although eventually the number of purchasers will dwindle and HMX will have to pull the plug. I wouldn't expect another disc release, but a DLC title that makes use of the RB library in some way and keeps people buying DLC would not shock me. I think instruments are really the stumbling block but that doesn't mean HMX can't come up with other ways for people to play games with music.

For the next gen consoles, I would love to see HMX establish RB as the karaoke+ platform that becomes the music game standard on next gen. I could see a "thin" DLC game that allows people to use songs from the DLC library for karaoke, pro features with midi adapters, or 5 button play capability, all with RB Blitz style social interaction . If it was closely partnered with the console developer (like Dance Central with Microsoft) and marketed by them as one of the entertainment features of their system, it might draw in some new players. Of course, that idea also depends on being able to leverage and put forward the existing library and that the companies will offer backwards compatibility for instruments and adapters.

I don't think a full blown on-disc game with all new instruments and starting the DLC library from scratch would be successful -- even on a new console. Honestly, unless the new features were absolutely mind-blowing, I couldn't even see myself buying a new console and starting over.

The future of rhythm gaming lies in adapters and not peripherals.
MIDI pro adapters that allow for greater flexibility. I.e, pedal powered OD. Abilities to read MIDI capable guitars, XLR and 1/4" mic inputs, an ability to use a regular guitar etc.

As for 5 button guitars, I figure that either you can hold on to the legacy instruments already made or you'll be able to use your regular old controllers as in days of old (PaRapper and Jammer Lammy). Of course MIDI capable guitars will do the trick too, just it won't be any better than playing with the Mustang is now, which is pretty awful.

If demand is there for it, someone will step up and build guitar shaped controllers after that.

Yeah because a niche market inside of a niche market is always the way to go.

It's not illegal, just against the Terms of Service you agreed to when you signed onto Xbox Live. You can get an account full of this stuff, sure, but don't be surprised that you can't do anything when they disable the account you purchased and ban your box/account for life.

EDIT: Oh hey, there are like two other pages in here.
