Santa, I don't mind everyone pointing out my idea sucks. I would just like people to point out why it sucks instead of such saying they don't like it.

I don't think you even understood my concept before you shot it down.

Ok, then. Simply put. If a Rock Band game required a real guitar, I would not be able to buy it. I play Rock Band as a game, not a learning tool (i.e. I have no plans to actually learn guitar). Having to buy a real guitar, then, would be a big cost deterrent to me and, I'm sure, others.

I obviously don't buy the idea, and vgcahrts isn't great but Rocksmith seems to be doing just fine:

Not to mention Rocksmith isn't dependant on a console.

You can get guitars from pawn shops cheaper than RB guitars. Just sayin'.

    My opinion on this matter?

If they were to make a new control scheme, requiring a new controller and such, don't make it a necessity. No one likes buying new peripherals for a video game when it could work with the ones they own, especially in this world economy. I'm surprised I've been able to get the instruments I have, and I know I won't be able to buy new ones without sacrificing certain other things, like Xbox Live for a year.

If you want people to be able to use their guitar in a fashion like Rocksmith, but have an option to play with five buttons and six frets or whatever, then fine. But don't leave us with plastic instruments behind.

There's a reason why that Guitar Hero 7 game with the new controls was cancelled. Well, besides them claiming the soundtrack was weak.

What about those who already have Rock Band instruments, but couldn't afford either a new Rock Band instrument or real guitar?

Eventually they'll have to get some type of new controller most likely.

Unless the new systems support the older controllers.

Or are you referring to them breaking? Yeah, once that happens they're SOL.

So how long do people expect HMX to support legacy guitar? Forever? As long as their in business?

When is it acceptable for them to move on to a new type of gameplay which requires new hardware?

Breaking. If you know what you're doing you can usually fix them, but that's a pain for most people.

So your theory is that they'll have to "stop" supporting a staple of a franchise and "move on" to a new system while still calling it "Rock Band?"

That's like The Legend of Zelda becoming a first person shooter.

If you're asking for a new game, then sure, go ahead and keep pushing. But don't say "Yeah, f*** all you posers and your fake guitars, they should stop supporting you guys and give me what I want." It's not fair to those of us who enjoy how Rock Band is now (read: almost all of us here) if they were to say "You know those instruments you like using? Next game, none of that."

If they were to cancel Rock Band and start a new project, that's fine. We wouldn't like it, but it'd be fair. But you don't change the core mechanics just because you want to experiment. You end up like Guitar Hero 7: so bad it gets cancelled.
