I have all of the peripherals and all of the pro instruments. I play them all, and I wouldn't give up a single one of them. Pro instruments to learn how to play the real deal. legacy for just the pure fun and challenge of it, and blitz when I don't want to work hard at playing. The dlc is to die for.

HMX has done a fantastic job of meeting the needs of pretty much anyone who wants to Rock Out in some form or fashion. I don't think I could ask for anything more.

I just want to be able to keep playing and have new challenges and goals along the way...hence...the need for RB4, as well as the ability to get replacement instruments when necessary. With the kind of investment people have made in this particular game, it seems like a reasonable expectation. but that's just me.

I bought my wired Fender Strat controller (I don't like going through batteries) for 35 dollars, I believe it was new. It is not a mediocre plastic instrument, it is an official Rock Band instrument. Maybe it is not *the* best out there, but it is decent. My guess would be that *if* I could find a real guitar for 35 dollars, it would not be decent quality and it sure wouldn't be new. And it is just not the instrument, I understand real instruments need maintenance and tuning, which would cost more.

It is more than just the money, though, it is the principle. Being forced to buy an actual instrument to play a video game just strikes me as ridiculous. Yes, there are games like Rocksmith, but that game is for people who already play guitar or want to learn to play guitar. I know my limitations, it is simply not a skill at which I would do well.

Edit P.S.: I am not saying they should *not* support real instruments at all. Just give the option for five button plastic, as well. Creating a five button chart for each song is nowhere near as difficult as creating the real instrument charts.

When they made the wired instruments they forgot about the PS3. Goddamn batteries, I'm tired of this ****.

i think part of RB's initial success was that the small, plastic, 5-button guitar was a lot less intimidating to most people than an actual, full size guitar. making a game that used a real guitar to play basic charts would be even less appealing than the games that use real guitars to play the actual songs, which is a limited audience itself.

I think I've replaced the batteries in my instruments less than 15 times total since I started playing.

And all that kind of brings us to where we are and what is going on. I think just about every one here, including HMX, wants a RB 4 made. But is it needed? RB 2 was needed to improve on what they began with in RB. It gave us more options, a larger tour; it, well, it just looked, felt and worked better. RB 3 was needed to introduce the pro instruments. It also brought many cosmetic and game mechanic improvements (imo the core gameplay was nearly perfected in RB 3). Sure, some things were lost along the way (I still long for a deeper and lasting tour of some sort), but that's the price of progress. So what, then, could a 4th game bring that RB 3 doesn't have or can't do that doesn't break what we already have in a massive DLC investment? Adding a sixth button for added challenge sounds at least interesting but would not be backward compatible with 4,000 or more songs and is not enough to build a new game on. If you had to, or maybe even just as an option, play 5 lane charts on a real guitar; that's just not reason enough for a new installment. Unfortunately, as much as we may want a RB 4, we may be at a point where there is not much that the platform needs that would justify the developement of it.
But I believe in this and it's been tested by research: he who [edit] nuns will later join the church.

Why couldn't HMX add dlc in the form of new challenges, goals, and tours, much like little big planet where you go to new places, and new elements. or map paks in black ops etc. I would be so happy with just something like that.

My current remaining RB guitar has somehow gained the ability to not turn itself off from inactivity. I will leave the game on for hours, doing other things in between a few songs, and forget about it. I think I've gone through three sets of batteries in a week. Would love a wired guitar right now.
