There's a few theories on what it's about, none of them particularly wholesome.

It's about a serial killer/rapist. You don't have to read anything into the lyrics to figure that out. Tyler is an even creepier song, actually.

Someone should put together a mash up of Call Me Maybe and Possum Kingdom "I just met you, and this is crazy, but here's my number, so call me maybe, DO YOU WANNA DIE" I don't think there will be any overlap between who buys Carly Rae and Toadies, which is pretty awesome the way HMX can hit various demographics with Rock Band

I mentioned this on the livestream, but one of the most interesting theories I read was that "Possum Kingdom" is about a vampire. "I'll show you my dark secret", "I can promise you you'll stay as beautiful with dark hair and soft skin forever", "do you wanna die?", etc.

But this interview with the band points to stories from their hometown that give a bit more insight into both "Possum Kingdom" and "Tyler".

In a 1995 interview with RIP magazine, Toadies lead singer Todd Lewis said: "It's just a story I heard long ago; it's just a really cool, eerie lake, and some stuff I heard and some stuff I just make up. I tend to do that. They dammed up this big river up there, and it's got all these spooky names like Hell's Gate. It's really cool."

Lewis went on to say that there was a real stalker in Tyler, Texas who became a folk hero: "I was down there for Thanksgiving, and after the family got through talking about who died and who's got cancer and all those things that families talk about, they started talking about this guy who was peeping in windows and started breaking into people's houses. He'd go out of his way to be seen, and everyone is like armed to the teeth, and he's like tapping on windows. The whole family was freaked out about it."

i always thought possum kingdom was about a pathetic teenager that fantasizes about being dark and scary.

After seeing the lyrics for Possum Kingdom I get this creepy feeling it is really about rape or necrophilia... am I on to something on this or am I reading to much into it or?

The beauty of the Toadies is how differently the lyrics can be taken from person to person. I see the whole album as a continuous story, I'll prove that.
