I thought for sure that Possum Kingdom was about a very specific, well-known local event / myth. But it sounds like the singer was just writing lyrics that told a creepy story ... that has now become a well-known myth?

It's always been a really fun song to sing. It's also fun to sing "Call Me Maybe", even though they are obviously not remotely similar styles - yes, I've bought both [or will have bought both once I get home].

Same way Silversun Pickups were never sued by The Smashing Pumpkins.

they would have been protected by parody clauses, just like weird al.

i'm pretty sure the toadies didn't write that song as a parody of where is my mind though.

It's more a successor to Where Is My Mind? than rip-off. Kind of like listening to Xanadu by Rush and then Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden. They're not copies, but you can see the roots of the latter were bred by the former.

If you want a REAL rip-off of Where Is My Mind?, try this.

I agree with Low, it really just builds off the original instead of straight ripping it off. And while Where is My Mind is definitely the better song, they're both great.

well it's not like you need to copy the entire song to get sued. look at that tiny sliver of melody that coldplay allegedly copied from joe satriani and got sued for. i think the pixies would have a much better case than satriani had. probably no one in that band ever heard the song... i'm not sure anyone in the WORLD ever heard that song before it got released as this week's DLC.

Just wanted to thank HMX again for the best dlc of the year

ps. the toadies have sold more records than the pixies, who wouldn't have sold 90% of those without Kurt Cobain. Personally I love the pixies and they are extremely influential but neither of those things translates into record sales. Also, everybody steals from somebody, it's just that some do it a lot more often than others
Faith No More is a perfect fit for Rock Band 3 dlc
