A top ten hit in four countries?

We didn't have any prog this year, but is four songs in a whole year much better? The two years with a lot of prog are the same two years with a lot of Rush.

Nightwish are actually very big, just not as much in America. They're pretty much a household name in Europe, especially central Europe and Scandinavia. "Amaranth" has 60 million views on YouTube as well.

They're a new act, and "Tonight Tonight" gets regular airplay around here. The song hit the Top 40 in many countries and sits at 32 million views on YouTube. I'd say that they're fairly popular.

in comparison to some other genres I don't think you have a lot to complain about. DLC in general decreased. Seen a lot of complaining about the lack of Classic Rock DLC. This shows that there was a lot when compared to other genres.

Biggest difference is hardly any albums if any (didn't want to go back and find out the facts on that reading through it again)

There hasn't been any albums released since London Calling, which is almost two years ago. I feel like it was a good album to end on, but I do wish they'd release another album. I'd buy Quadrophenia full album as soon as possible.

I was actually surprised to see classic rock among the top 5 genres, especially when there are a few songs under other genres like southern and miscellaneous rock that a lot of people would consider classic rock (and, really, it's more of a radio format than an actual genre).

And wasn't everybody complaining that we were getting too much classic rock in 2011?

I think people complain when there's a constant stream of the same genre over a period of time. 2010-2011 had a bunch of classic rock released in a row. This year it's been pretty spread out, with the biggest complaint being it's not enough in general.

Not to mention Smooth is labeled Classic Rock and some other questionable songs

And maybe figure out how much $1 DLC was picked up since the sale began. If you plan on doing the 2013 roundup too, maybe copy the page for 12/31/12 to have a record of where 2013 began.
Sadly I didn't have that much foresight. It's a good idea though, and I will embed that info in the post for next year (ah, if *only* I get to do this next year!)

Also, information junkies! Cast your eyes back to the original post! It has been updated with error corrections and new stats concerning RBN (which I added a couple days ago) and RB Blitz!

It's not "Remedy" that is going to be the low-seller from that pack; it's "Sometimes Salvation".

Okay, maybe not the norm, but I just counted 14 packs of 6 or more from one artist in 2011.

6 packs were never the norm, though at one point it was normal to get about 6 songs a week through 2 3 packs, a 3 pack and singles, or all singles.

We've only ever gotten 27 6 packs, but we've gotten 141 3 packs. We've only gotten 88 packs larger than 3 all combined. Add in albums and that jumps to 116. That's still 25 less than just 3 packs alone.
Hence why I said "okay, maybe not the norm".

Still, one can't deny that's a pretty big drop off from fourteen 6+ packs in 2011 to just one in 2012.
Still waiting for an 80's Hair Band pack of NUMEROUS artists.
