Then ignore it. Nobody is forcing you to comment on it. And if you are taking it serious, that is what is silly. It's all opinion and not meant to be a contractual binding conversation.

Funny though, I actually found myself whistling to Stairway the other day. Laughed at myself out loud. And I've heard that song on an elevator as well. Hell, I've even heard a bossanova version of Enter Sandman played by Metallica!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBmM79YadYM You can't believe how quite the crowd went!! If that's not elevator music!!!!

Well the problem here is that you are stating your opinion like it's a fact ("if you can't headbang to it, IT IS NOT ROCK!") in a public forum where we discuss things, so that you are expecting noone to reply and perhaps disagree is rather absurd. Saying it's just "your opinion" doesn't mean it can't be discussed or questioned when presented in a public forum like this.

    Yep same here, RBN ftw

So if you think there's been no metal released in 2012...you just aren't looking very hard.

I'm certainly not going to argue with anyone about what my opinion of rock is. But a short definition: If you find yourself banging your head with the devil horns on your hand, it's rock.

Dio would be rolling in his grave if he heard you call Elton John rock!! You may actually start the zombie apocalypse with Stevie Ray, Hendrix, Rhodes, Scott, and the many other ROCK artists that are going to crawl out with a statement like that. Good music, sure, rock, NO.
I think someone needs to take a History of Music class. Last time I checked, the music produced by the founding fathers of rock and roll sounded nothing like AC/DC or Ozzy Osbourne. Rock music has evolved into many different forms ... pop stuff isn't my cup of tea but I'm not arrogant enough to think that it doesn't have a place in the sub-genre of rock.

And I would say it's an even better bet that Dio is doing flips right now because someone referred to him as a "Rock" artist, and not a "Heavy Metal" one.

As for RBN, I've purchased 3 times as many songs from RBN over that last 6 months then I have HMX. The music on RBN is great at times, don't discount them.
Yeah - I just did a quick count - 2010 to now I have 434 HMX DLC, I have 1093 RBN DLC. There is a ton of great stuff on RBN.

Pop, Country, Rhythm and Blues was the foundation of early rock. I'm sorry, but all of this is rock. Just because it isn't rock to you doesn't make it less valid of a rock song. I can understand if you were arguing what subgenre of rock it fell under, but it's all rock.

There is this interesting book you should think about reading (Although it only caps at early 2000): An Introduction to Rock and Its History

Edit: Actually that is the second edition, get this new book What's That Sound?

As for the DLC? I will be passing, but I can't wait for Always to be released soon. I'm hoping there will be two more blink tracks with that.

I never stated it was fact, nor was it inferred. I never implied that I was the master of genre labels. I was very clear that it was my opinion and nothing more. And I stand behind what I believe to be "rock". How do you state your opinion like it was fact? That statement in itself is an oxymoron. Opinions are, by definition, not fact.

Opinion - an opinion is a belief about matters commonly considered to be subjective, i.e., it is based on that which is less than absolutely certain, and is the result of emotion or interpretation of facts.

Your statements are taken as opinion by me, as is 99.9% of the things said on this forum. To believe anything else is, well as you stated, silly.

I am very versed on the history of "rock", but that doesn't change my opinion. One could argue that since the 1950's, 80% of all music could be categorized as rock. And some even categorize songs as "rock" before the term was coined. It was a DJ in 1951 that first used the term when playing rhythm and blues music. So which came first, the genre or the music?

I'll conceit to everyone here. All music that is put onto RB is rock. Does that make everyone happier?

And by the way, Dio hated the term "metal".

I can see how a statement like that may come across as someone trying to establish a "fact"
BUT HEY THAT IS JUST MY OPINION

It was not my intention to imply that my statement is in anyway now, or in the future, deemed as fact. All statements made by me, or a representative there of, are to be contrived as opinion and in no way should be be taken as a legally binding or factual account of history or future events.

Any disagreement with my opinion is and will be considered opinion by the one stating such derision, and will be taken into consideration when formulating my opinionated response.

There, all of the legal stuff out of the way, this is silly (silly is my opinion and not to be co mingled with statements made by others).

    Happy now?

I have 699 HMX DLC songs and 65 RBN songs. Wouldn't say I'm ignoring RBN at all, just a heck of a lot more interests me on the HMX side.
