    Hardware-Software Compatibility

I have Playstation 2. I'd like to upgrade to a PS3, but before I do, I need to know if my PS2 Rock Band 2 and the drum kit, as well as Guitar Hero wired guitars will still work? And will the software discs still work?

Hardware - I think so. Drums will work, guitars maybe.
    Software - no.

I never ran into a PS2 piece of hardware that doesn't work on PS3, if it's USB it's plug and play, if it's the standart PS2 controller port, you need a USB adapter, but it should work.

The PS2 game will not work unless you have a FAT PS2 that has a working PS2 emulator, and even then, I can't confirm if the game will work properly. Forget online play if it does. You're better off buying Rock Band 3.

I remember hearing that a lot of the PS2-USB adapters didn't work quite right with the guitars, but the one made by TheAntCommandos (TAC) worked the best. I am unaware if this situation has improved in the past few years.
