I don't think its fair to have a compilation album on a greatest albums list. Anyone can put together a bunch of songs on a mix tape. Teenage girls do it all the time. Talent is creating your work as a band.

Even if I participated in every single album I own, I'd only be in like 5% of the discussions. You guys would be the stars, and I, a mere featured player.
So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, good night.

    [12:18:04 AM] Blake Smith: GO
[12:18:14 AM] Justin Preston: I Wanna Be Adored
[12:18:22 AM] Justin Preston: Fade in
[12:18:25 AM] Michael Witt: See it wants to trick you into thinking theres no song
[12:18:39 AM] Michael Witt: Nah, that's just traffic noise you say
[12:18:42 AM] Blake Smith: you can't fool me stone roses
[12:18:54 AM] Michael Witt: That's the last track, we're not there yet
[12:18:56 AM] Justin Preston: I hear a bass
[12:19:15 AM] Michael Witt: I've been requesting this song in rock band forever
[12:19:39 AM] Michael Witt: It's like a checklist to see if the instruments are there
[12:20:23 AM] Blake Smith: that was just the warm up
[12:20:29 AM] Michael Witt: I used this line in a painting "I don't have to sell my soul, he's already in me"
[12:20:51 AM] Michael Witt: Many of their songs have a theme of soul selling
[12:21:02 AM] Justin Preston: Was it a gay pornographic painting?
[12:21:11 AM] Blake Smith: you wish
[12:21:34 AM] Michael Witt: But this is quite the opening track. They already made their mission statement that they want to be adored.
[12:22:01 AM] Justin Preston: Sounds desperate
[12:22:18 AM] Michael Witt: Yes I do adore you Ian Brown
[12:22:27 AM] Michael Witt: He's got great solo work
[12:22:35 AM] Michael Witt: Spoiler this band only has 2 albums
[12:22:49 AM] Justin Preston: Alright so far. Bit repetitive
[12:22:52 AM] Blake Smith: what happened after that?
[12:22:56 AM] Blake Smith: they break up?
[12:22:59 AM] Justin Preston: She Bangs The Drums
[12:23:10 AM] Michael Witt: This is supposed to be their big early hit
[12:23:17 AM] Justin Preston: This one was in GH3 but I don't think I ever played it
[12:23:17 AM] Blake Smith: more bass
[12:23:27 AM] Michael Witt: It was a bonus track and a cover
[12:23:56 AM] Michael Witt: I love that bass
[12:25:45 AM] Justin Preston: It sounds like it could be a hit
[12:26:17 AM] Blake Smith: yeah it's not bad
[12:26:32 AM] Michael Witt: This album started off britpop and shoegazing
[12:26:44 AM] Michael Witt: It has its roots deep
[12:26:52 AM] Justin Preston: Elephant Stone
[12:26:56 AM] Blake Smith: i hear the term shoegaze all the time but i still have no idea what it is
[12:27:36 AM] Michael Witt: It's like the alternative version of psychedelic
[12:27:57 AM] Blake Smith: ah i see
[12:28:13 AM] Michael Witt: Like Lush, My Bloody Valentine, etc
[12:28:20 AM] Blake Smith: well i like it so far, it's pretty chill
[12:28:25 AM] Michael Witt: It feels like there's an enviornment to the music
[12:28:37 AM] Michael Witt: Shoe gazing is really chill
[12:28:45 AM] Justin Preston: I get My Bloody Valentine confused with Bullet for my Valentine
[12:28:59 AM] Michael Witt: Big mistake
    [12:29:04 AM] Justin Preston: Yeah
[12:29:17 AM] Blake Smith: i thought you said My Bloody Valentine was screamo?
[12:29:39 AM] Justin Preston: I was thinking of Bullet for my
    [12:29:58 AM] Justin Preston: Waterfall
[12:30:02 AM] Michael Witt: If you want less ambient guitars I suggest Stone Roses second album. It's a lot harder
[12:30:28 AM] Blake Smith: this is good enough to make me continue sometime
[12:30:37 AM] Michael Witt: One of my favorite guitar parts on the album
[12:31:39 AM] Justin Preston: I was into the Stone when she was into the Roses
[12:31:42 AM] Michael Witt: Wait I missed the part about Justin shooting waterfalls
[12:31:56 AM] Michael Witt: Costello music reference I see
[12:32:02 AM] Michael Witt: Don't stop!!!
[12:32:05 AM] Justin Preston: It's all I can think of
[12:32:22 AM] Justin Preston: Don't stop didn't start yet
[12:32:24 AM] Michael Witt: I love this, it's like the guitars are going backwards
[12:32:38 AM] Justin Preston: Am I far behind?
[12:32:53 AM] Justin Preston: I'm still in the middle of Waterfall
[12:32:59 AM] Michael Witt: Don't stop is the song right?
[12:33:16 AM] Justin Preston: Its the next one
[12:33:16 AM] Blake Smith: yeah after waterfall
[12:33:26 AM] Blake Smith: about 1 minute left for me
[12:33:38 AM] Michael Witt: I thought we were contining through waterfall, mine ended
[12:33:38 AM] Justin Preston: Yeah same
[12:33:48 AM] Michael Witt: What the hell is up with this recording
[12:34:05 AM] Michael Witt: Tell me when you get to don't stop, I'll refocus
[12:34:09 AM] Blake Smith: how long was your waterfall?
[12:34:39 AM] Blake Smith: ok i paused
    [12:34:40 AM] Justin Preston: Paused
[12:35:20 AM] Michael Witt: I don't know what happened.
[12:35:33 AM] Michael Witt: I think my elephant stone was shorter so it screwed it up
    [12:35:46 AM] Blake Smith: rookies
[12:36:06 AM] Michael Witt: Tell me when you get to don't stop
[12:36:15 AM] Justin Preston: Ready when you are
[12:36:19 AM] Michael Witt: Just so you know I love the exit to Waterfall
[12:36:25 AM] Blake Smith: alright lets recount

[12:37:25 AM] Michael Witt: A lot of people are put off by this song, I love it
[12:37:51 AM] Michael Witt: This intro just has so much life to it

[12:47:00 AM] Justin Preston: (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister
[12:48:13 AM] Michael Witt: Really the point of this kind of music is enviornment. It's not really driving, its not trying to be overly chaotic. It's there to enjoy your time with
[12:48:46 AM] Justin Preston: I get that
[12:48:53 AM] Blake Smith: that's why i'm just falling into it
[12:48:58 AM] Justin Preston: It's just for kicking back and enjoying
[12:49:20 AM] Michael Witt: Yeah, its the cultural response to hair metal of the time
[12:49:47 AM] Michael Witt: You actually hear these guys quite a bit in soundtracks, because they fill this purpose
[12:50:06 AM] Blake Smith: yeah i could see that
[12:50:27 AM] Michael Witt: This is gonna be a bit jarring going from this to White stripes
[12:50:34 AM] Justin Preston: Made of Stone
[12:50:44 AM] Justin Preston: Especially early White Stripes
[12:50:47 AM] Michael Witt: Did your made of stone just start
[12:50:53 AM] Michael Witt: I'm 30 seconds in
    [12:50:53 AM] Justin Preston: Yeah
    [12:51:11 AM] Blake Smith: i'm at 45
[12:51:15 AM] Michael Witt: Me to
    [12:51:23 AM] Michael Witt: 1:00
[12:51:27 AM] Justin Preston: I just got there when Blake said
[12:51:35 AM] Blake Smith: yeah we're find
[12:51:37 AM] Michael Witt: just checking.
    [12:51:38 AM] Blake Smith: *fine
[12:51:44 AM] Michael Witt: I'm trying to avoid disaster again
[12:51:59 AM] Justin Preston: Blake bakes a cake
[12:52:18 AM] Blake Smith: i wish i had cake
[12:52:32 AM] Michael Witt: But Cake's not on the rolling stones set
[12:52:39 AM] Justin Preston: Blake rakes near a lake
[12:52:49 AM] Justin Preston: Cake should be on the list
[12:52:51 AM] Michael Witt: Mike bikes while his tikes hike
[12:53:09 AM] Blake Smith: then he's hit by a truck
[12:53:10 AM] Justin Preston: Justin is... dusting?
[12:53:10 AM] Michael Witt: Justin Bustin Gust of wins
[12:53:27 AM] Justin Preston: That doesn't make sense!
[12:53:49 AM] Justin Preston: Wait... farts. I get it
[12:53:55 AM] Michael Witt: Justin bustin my balls on nonsensical rhymes
[12:54:41 AM] Justin Preston: Shoot Your Own
[12:54:42 AM] Michael Witt: It's these moments of brilliance you get to hear their guitar player shine
    [12:54:53 AM] Justin Preston: Nope
[12:54:58 AM] Justin Preston: Shoot You Down
[12:55:06 AM] Justin Preston: I am clearly tired
[12:55:14 AM] Michael Witt: Shoot You Down
[12:55:36 AM] Blake Smith: what happened to mmb?
[12:55:38 AM] Michael Witt: So... It was just me.
[12:55:46 AM] Justin Preston: Did you guys leave me?
[12:55:47 AM] Michael Witt: I dunno should we stop?
[12:55:59 AM] Justin Preston: **** you did
[12:56:06 AM] Blake Smith: i don't know usually i'm the one that leaves
[12:56:10 AM] Justin Preston: What do I do!!!!!????!?
[12:56:20 AM] Blake Smith: there he is
[12:56:22 AM] Michael Witt: Well I'm here, the power is yours
[12:56:32 AM] Justin Preston: Hey you guys are back
[12:56:37 AM] Michael Witt: You left us
[12:56:43 AM] Justin Preston: I missed ya
[12:56:46 AM] Michael Witt: Your internet be screwed
[12:57:04 AM] Michael Witt: The most nonviolent song about shooting
[12:57:15 AM] Michael Witt: Of course its about heroin, but that's another point
[12:57:40 AM] Blake Smith: there's alot of great songs about heroin
[12:57:46 AM] Justin Preston: I was here the whole time being funny.
[12:57:52 AM] Michael Witt: Half of these songs are abot heroin
[12:58:24 AM] Michael Witt: The opening line of She Bangs the Drum is about hitting a needle
[12:58:48 AM] Blake Smith: i don't approve of the habit but it makes for some fine music
[12:59:00 AM] Justin Preston: This is the One
[12:59:06 AM] Michael Witt: Wait till you get to the Velvet Underground
[12:59:23 AM] Blake Smith: i know that one quite well
[12:59:39 AM] Justin Preston: Well I dont
[12:59:41 AM] Justin Preston: No spoilers!
[12:59:44 AM] Michael Witt: I'm glad both their albums at least made the list
[12:59:54 AM] Blake Smith: you will mmb
[1:00:07 AM] Michael Witt: But Andy Warhol used to inject people with heroin at Velvet Underground shows
[1:00:12 AM] Justin Preston: All I know is that there is a banana involved
[1:00:40 AM] Blake Smith: Heroin is easily my favorite song by them
[1:00:43 AM] Michael Witt: Actually wait it wasn't heroin it was an amphedomine
[1:01:09 AM] Michael Witt: My favorite is Who Loves the Sun
[1:01:20 AM] Michael Witt: But you can see thei influence in Stone Roses
[1:02:33 AM] Michael Witt: The repressed energy of this guitarist is amazing. You can feel him hold back and then go all out.
[1:02:41 AM] Justin Preston: So Witt, how goes the healing?
[1:02:47 AM] Blake Smith: i love this pick up here
[1:02:58 AM] Michael Witt: I'm learning to type fast with a hand and a half
[1:03:34 AM] Justin Preston: Did Mavis Beacon teach you?
[1:03:39 AM] Michael Witt: Finger typing for the win
[1:04:01 AM] Justin Preston: I Am The Resurrection
[1:04:01 AM] Michael Witt: do you know the neemy
    [1:04:05 AM] Michael Witt: enemy
[1:04:11 AM] Michael Witt: the enemy
[1:04:13 AM] Justin Preston: Yeah really :P
[1:04:20 AM] Michael Witt: Oh wait wrong song
[1:04:39 AM] Blake Smith: couple of long ones to end it
[1:05:05 AM] Michael Witt: It was supposed to end with this song
[1:05:21 AM] Michael Witt: Then they had their second album called "The Second Coming"
[1:05:25 AM] Michael Witt: It was perfect
[1:05:31 AM] Michael Witt: Fools gold ruined it
[1:06:10 AM] Blake Smith: well i'll just hope the song is good enough to make up for it
[1:06:44 AM] Michael Witt: I'll let you be the judge of that
[1:07:10 AM] Michael Witt: But I love when you can hear this guitarist come out. The second album showcases his talents much better.
[1:07:37 AM] Blake Smith: he sounds a little restricted
[1:07:51 AM] Michael Witt: For sound purposes yes
[1:07:51 AM] Blake Smith: but you can tell he's pretty great
    [1:07:54 AM] Justin Preston: Oooh
[1:08:04 AM] Michael Witt: He's really clean
    [1:08:14 AM] Blake Smith: yeah
[1:09:14 AM] Michael Witt: I'm reading into this and I forgot John Squire played the guitars. He and Ian Brown broke up the band
[1:09:41 AM] Michael Witt: John Squire was tired of holding back
[1:09:44 AM] Justin Preston: This is still the same song? Wow.
[1:09:49 AM] Justin Preston: I like it
    [1:09:54 AM] Blake Smith: same
[1:10:14 AM] Michael Witt: This is why it was such a wonderful song to end it on.
[1:10:23 AM] Michael Witt: It seems like it ended then resurrected itself
[1:11:03 AM] Justin Preston: That it did
[1:11:20 AM] Justin Preston: BTW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY WITT
[1:11:50 AM] Blake Smith: oh yeah forgot about that
[1:12:02 AM] Michael Witt: Thank you, my wife still hasn't told me the "surprise" yet but whatever
[1:12:10 AM] Justin Preston: Fools Gold
[1:12:43 AM] Blake Smith: that was a good drum break
[1:12:48 AM] Justin Preston: The real surprise will be when it comes out black.
[1:13:07 AM] Blake Smith: but i'm not black
[1:13:24 AM] Michael Witt: This was added in later for the US release. Much like the White album by the Beatles
[1:13:39 AM] Michael Witt: Oh black babies sure
[1:13:41 AM] Justin Preston: It seems like a cool bonus track
[1:14:17 AM] Michael Witt: It's one of their more popular songs much like Train in Vain is one Clash's most popular despite being a bonus song
[1:14:38 AM] Justin Preston: Only problem was that the last one sounded like a better album closer
    [1:14:48 AM] Michael Witt: Exactly
    [1:14:51 AM] Blake Smith: yeah
[1:15:00 AM] Michael Witt: It made sense in the artistic aspect
[1:15:22 AM] Michael Witt: If you're gonna compare your band to Jesus at least rearrange the album to make it make sense
[1:17:23 AM] Blake Smith: more great guitar jams
[1:17:53 AM] Michael Witt: Squire wrote most the songs on the second album which explains why its more guitar heavy.
[1:18:11 AM] Blake Smith: ah i see
[1:19:06 AM] Michael Witt: It's like a jam band, but with more controlled chaos
[1:19:12 AM] Michael Witt: In your face Phish!
[1:21:28 AM] Blake Smith: coming to a close
[1:21:50 AM] Justin Preston: Good album but will require more listens
[1:21:55 AM] Michael Witt: It's drawn out
[1:22:16 AM] Michael Witt: But as I said, check out their 2nd album
[1:22:23 AM] Blake Smith: well that's it for Stone Roses
[1:22:28 AM] Justin Preston: Yeah I really like Love Spreads
[1:22:40 AM] Michael Witt: Well thanks for having me stop by. I'll see you gents later
[1:23:18 AM] Blake Smith: no problem witt, we'll call you if we do Jimmy Eat World
[1:23:28 AM] Justin Preston: I'm giving top 3 to Don't Stop, I Am The Resurrection, and Waterfall
[1:23:42 AM] Michael Witt: Actually I'm really interested in the Modern Lovers and LCD Soundsystem
    [1:23:54 AM] Justin Preston: Sure
[1:24:08 AM] Justin Preston: I hope we make it that far
[1:24:13 AM] Michael Witt: But my favorites are about the same as Justin's
[1:24:34 AM] Michael Witt: Sounds of Silver is incredible, Modern Lovers are weird and fun
[1:24:45 AM] Blake Smith: I was gonna go with I am the Ressurrection, Fools Gold, and Waterfall
[1:25:01 AM] Michael Witt: No love for Don't Stop?
[1:25:18 AM] Justin Preston: I really liked the crazy backwards sound of it
[1:25:25 AM] Blake Smith: it was good
[1:25:30 AM] Blake Smith: just not top 3 good
[1:25:49 AM] Michael Witt: OK, but I'm off for real, stay in touch.
    [1:25:57 AM] Blake Smith: cya
[1:25:59 AM] Justin Preston: Oh uh, lets see... I'll go with 7/10 I think
[1:26:10 AM] Blake Smith: same for me i think
[1:26:12 AM] Justin Preston: Bye Witt. Good luck tomorrow
[1:26:26 AM] Blake Smith: nothing overly amazing but a few gems for sure
[1:26:26 AM] Justin Preston: With the surgery and all
[1:26:45 AM] Michael Witt: Yeah I almost forgot about that... Almost.
