I generally need at least 3, and prefer to have at least 4. I need 2 somewhat formal shoes for work, and at least 1 pair of casual shoes, but prefer to have at least 2. Usually I also have a beater pair for mowing the lawn.

If I can't rotate my shoes, my athlete's foot acts up badly. Plus, rotating the shoes makes them last much, much longer.
