Iirc it's a game based off of Dante's Divine Comedy.

Me either but I remember a kid bringing up Devil May Cry 4 when we read Dante's Inferno in English class back in school.

That would be Dante's Inferno. It was probably brought up when reading the Divine Comedy because the main character's name is Dante.
