I have a friend that hates playing most games because she's usually the least competitive person in the room, but really enjoys watching others play because she enjoys observing the behavior of others, and how a person behaves while playing a game (especially one that involves both strategy and bluffing) can be very interesting and telling.
Another reason why I prefer 'local' games over online gaming: I like to be able to actually watch my opponent.
I remember my teacher in either 5th or 6th grade taught us all how to play Statego. That was a fun game. I think I got one of his sets at the end of the school year, brought it home and played it with my mom about 5 times, and put it in the closet, never to be seen again. (well except for the 3 times we've moved since then) I don't even remember how to play it.
That's typically the way all of my board games are.

There is a level of complexity that is too much. From what Ive heard and seen of DnD thats too much. Also Ticket To Ride is another game Ive watched being played and while I could see how experience might make that better it doesnt peak my intrest enough to come back to it.
Also Id would say I have a normal amount of attention span what annoys me in games is when they are slow(deliberate or not)
Plenty of games. Just look at youtube.

Time to pick up an expansion, I'd say. The missus and I have bumped into the problem with the base game that we have an approach to it that works 90% of the time, so we need a little extra challenge.
As for cooperative card games, I've heard good things about Sentinels, but the Lord of the Rings LCG is a bit higher on my 'to buy' list, and that's co-op as well. Co-op games are great for those nights when you want to play with your SO but don't want to run the risk of having to sleep on the couch because of an under-handed win.![]()
Oh Lex, have you ever played Power Grid? One of my favorite games. Lots of fun, and all my friends enjoy it, though one friend refuses to play with me (somehow, whenever I play, he does horribly, horribly bad).

I think one of the best ways to make a game is with easy to learn mechanics that if you just learn those you will be just fine but if you want to dig deeper for more complexity you will be benefited for your work. Which is one of the reasons why I really enjoy Pokemon.

I've played with 3 different expansions. Dunwich Horror, Kingsport, and Innsmoth. Kingsport and Dunwich horror ad the most difficulty, so I suggest one of those. Never play with more than 1 less expansion board than you have players though. Usually we use 2 for 3-4 players.

I've heard a lot of praise for Power Grid, but I've been having trouble convincing myself to pick it up because the theme doesn't really appeal to me, and to me theme is pretty important when playing a game. I guess that's why I enjoy Fantasy Flight games so much, because they tend to combine good theme and flavor with elegant (if slightly complex) mechanics. My favorite games (Battlestar Galactica, Arkham Horror, Netrunner) tend to be FFG games.
We already own Dunwich, and the injury/madness cards are a standard (and welcome) addition to our base game. Somehow we've never found time to play with the additional board, though, mostly because we've been playing with first time players a lot lately.
