Considering this version of "Dream On" is from 2005, it's literally Aerosmith covering a (at that point) 32-year-old song.

I agree with your points, just wanted to add this note.

Oh, is it? Whoops. I thought I read on Friday in the announcement thread that it was from the 70's.

Tyler was sober in 2005, so I have no excuse for the first half of the song. But good for him for nailing the last half.

Not familiar with their catalog? Do you have Spotify? Most of their stuff is available on there. If you're that intrigued, I highly recommend giving their old stuff a listen.

Toys In The Attic is an amazing album and often regarded as one of their best.

One of the fascinating things about this (and their other early) album(s) is that they wrote a great album without really trying to write hits or singles, as they did with Permanent Vacation and Pump and everything after that. Still, these (and even their newest albums) produced great songs.

But listening to Toys, Draw The Line, Rocks, or their debut album, you realize these are amazing musicians with incredible potential. These aren't guys emulating the blues. These are blues musicians who took it to the next level.

Drugs and ego eventually tore the band apart, but they were smart enough in the late 80's to realize that they still had chemistry, and went back to working together (Tyler/Perry are an amazing songwriting combination that I rank with Lennon/McCartney and Elton John/Bernie Taupin) and rose like a phoenix from their own ashes to produce some of the biggest hits of their lives.

GH:Aerosmith came out before I was ever into rhythm games, I didn't have a console, and it was the first time I was ever intrigued by the concept. I would love to see what Harmonix could have done with the full Aerosmith catalog, and I'm sad I'll never see that happen, but I'll take what I can get. And if this small pack gets people to say "Hey, I should really give Toys In The Attic a listen, it's worth it."

And in closing, I have no idea why I decide to write the short history of Aerosmith. Sorry 'bout that.

(I'm kind of excited about this pack. I hope to do the same when they blow my mind announcing the Genesis pack)

Because you wanted to save me from doing it?

    ---

But yeah - anyone who isn't familiar with Aerosmith outside of their big hits and is even slightly interested in hearing more of their stuff should check them out on Spotify. If you discover the Toys in the Attic album, that's awesome.

Even the new album has some good tracks, namely "LUV XXX", "Out Go the Lights", and "Street Jesus". It too, like Aerosmith records after their resurgence, has its' fair share of 'trying to be a hit single' ballads (this latest album is especially heavy on them). Lyrically, it's a little weak, but they can still bring it musically when they want to.

If you dig past the ballads of the last 25 years (though some of those are good too), there are still some awesome tunes in their catalog, and especially in their past.

I could literally write post after post of song suggestions, but seriously, nobody wants that.

What year was their debut album released? I know they've been around for ~35 years.
