Why would the Mustang outperform his GK1 for example? Because there's not translation, it's direct button to MIDI triggering. If the button is hit, the MIDI is sent. End of story.

And yeppers I play fast. Just wanted to say that again.
I tried the mustang on my PC after posting, and I can confirm that there is no problem about speed, I can put it in tapping mode and simply poop something fast and everything is totally fine. I also just found out that I can actually hear myself while playing RB, like I do with my keyboard, which is actually nice. (Plug the mustang to the PC, split the signal, one end to a MIDI sequencer, the other to the MPA).

I'm not painting the best picture, honestly. He's my best friend, I'd never label him as a jerk.

He's kind of elitist, but so was I not too long ago. To my great shame, I was soooo much like him. But Rock Band broke me of being such a snob. It really did. I want to transform him too.

I've though about doing that too, but I kind of like that the Mustang is wireless more than hearing it play. So, I never really did the split signal thing. Honestly I haven't even done it with the keyboards yet. I've always wanted to try it, but I guess I'm lazy.

Maybe after I move back home, I'll make sure to set up some kind of ready to go setup so I can do either or in a minute's notice.

It takes 20 secondes to set up once you're set. Plug in wires, Boot MIDI-OX, make sure the inputs and outputs are the correct ones, boot your MIDI sequencer of choice, make sure the input is LoopMIDI (or any ''virtual'' MIDI cable you want).

I wouldn't even bother with OX. I will dedicated a synth module for the task. Something like Alesis Nanosynth. Just do the split into that and output to an amp. There are even cheaper alternatives that that.

But I'd rather not involve my laptop in this at all.

Yep, well, there's plenty of ways to achieve that :P I was sharing the one I use right now. It not lagless though (with asio4all, about 14ms lag, which is acceptable).

Thinking about it, regarding using it for guitar as well as keys, I might get a stand alone MIDI sound module like the "Piano Box". It uses regular GM so I can assign guitar parts in a way that the Mustang should be able to address readily with the "each string is it's own channel" deal-e-o.

I don't get the whole "I'm a real musician so i can't play fake instruments" argument, it's very immature in my view actually to answer a question as that.

That's like saying "I'm a real assassin, so i can't play assassin's creed".. or "I'm a real solider so i cannot play Call Of Duty" the arguments stupid.

Otherwise he sounded okay in the sense that he's at least going to let his kids try it.
