Kind of disappointed with Silent Lucidity, at least from a guitar player standpoint. I like a bit of challenge with all my songs I suppose. From a singer standpoint though it's a good song. But not if they didn't include the high note at the end.
Eyes of a Stranger or Jet City Woman would have been better, I would have really preferred the former over anything though.
But, as with Pantera (at least with Phil singing)*..I think Queensryche's best stuff was on their self titled first album. Not so much the instrument work as much as the singing....Geoff was at his high point on that album. You might think Operation: Mindcrime was his best vocally but you should go listen to what he does on their self titled album.
I do think he kept most of that goodness up to Empire though.
* Pantera's first album where Phil was singing was Power Metal and I tend to think it's some of their best work. Vocal wise, Phil was hitting crazy notes that he only used sparingly in the future..and the guitar work was downright insane.
God no. It's not like a good singer is the one able to belt out a note. Suite Sister Mary is a clinic in singing, Roads to Madness too: you have reciting, you have screaming, you have very low notes, you have very high solid notes, you have perfectly clean singing... And you can easily check that with the new singer for Queensryche: he can actually sing Queen of the Ryche pretty well, but he's not the singer that Tate was up until Promised Land. Not by a long shot.By the way, even The Lady Wore Black in the EP is eclipsed by its acoustic version on MTV Unplugged.
Intentionally so. I wasn't actually comparing them, I was illustrating how ludicrous the "literal one hit wonder" label is because it can even be applied to bands who are among the most prominent in rock history (which I was in no way saying Queensryche is).
The easiest way is to find somewhere on the net someone else already did it and copy+paste.
More involved, on Windows you can go to All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map, and find it there and copypaste.
Or, hold down alt and type 0255 on the numberpad.
Queensr˙che is foiled by their chosen umlaut actually existing. Spın̈al Tap doesn't have this problem because the röck döts they use don't even exist in most standard character sets.
(see, these forums don't even support the n with döts)

To be fair, when I talk about Pink Floyd like, I mean only "Silent Lucidity". The song itself reminds me a lot of parts of Comfortably Numb (sadly, minus the superawesome guitar solo). I know very little of Queensryche other than that and a few trivia tidbits and bits of other songs.

Thanks Mr. Tate. Aside from that and a couple string lines that could've been charted, it looks and sounds like a good chart.
You're definitely not the only one. There were people on the RB FB page that asked about it too, months ago. Honestly how I got the umlaut was going to QR's wiki page and copy pasting the ˙ there. If I'm on my iPhone or iPad (like right now), I just hold down the y on the keyboard and it gives you the ˙ option.
Very true. Up until Promised Land, Tate couldn't be touched, especially his stuff in the 80s. Not the case anymore unfortunately. I guess that's what cigarettes and alcohol does to a great voice. On a related note, I love QR's new singer and look forward to hearing a non-Geoff Tate Queensr˙che album really soon.
Actually, it's not just you if you were talking about not seeing the new song in the on-site song finder.
I just tried the song finder with an exact cut-and-paste match ("Queensr˙che") and nothing came up. I think it might be related that the umaluts are done with ascii and searches don't like ascii. Try searching by song title. It's not as convenient, but it does work every time.
Honestly, Silent Lucidity was a "dark horse" to me. I actually expected "Jet City Woman" instead when I saw the announcement. It seriously feels like the knocked-out contender for final song, like an honorable mention that didn't quite fit into the final pack. It is good to finally see some Queensr˙che, though I wish there could be more. Maybe we'll get lucky on RB4...
