Remember when they were talking about...

... updating DLC with vocal harmonization/keyboard/pro guitar support?

Whatever happened to that? Did the company make an official press release stating that they had no intention of implementing this? Has there simply been no word? I've looked, and everything I can find referencing it is about 3 years old.

Pro guitar upgrades don't sell very well at all for new DLC, and even worse for legacy DLC (as in less than four or five hundred sales across all three consoles). There's a list of supposed legacy upgrades that somebody found sometime that did match up with a few we got, but it's impossible to know if the others truly were on the schedule.

Every time HMX released RB3 Versions of songs we as a community took a giant steaming **** on those releases, so you can understand why they never went back for more.

Just add 'em both to the list of things that aren't gonna happen ever again or anymore. There'll still be a few pro upgrades for new DLC (though none in next week's release), but certainly no legacy upgrades.

For some reason, people thought if they paid for the song prior, they were somehow entitled to the upgraded RB3 version for free. I really never understood that logic. It's a shame they quit doing RB3 versions because there's a TON of back catalog stuff that would be awesome with keys and harmonies. I'd actually be okay if (after the Blitz DLC stops) HMX alternated between new DLC and upgrading old DLC. But I believe upgrading old songs requires them to be completely re-licensed, so it's not like that'd be doing them any favors. Plus the whole music store would be an organizational nightmare (kinda like the Queen section of the store)

I would change that to "some members" took it poorly. Not the whole community, not by a long shot.

I'd agree that it makes sense to have some sort of time period where songs are "protected" from updates. But the statute of limitations on all pre-RB3 songs should be over by now. If Rock Band was going to continue on into the indefinte future, it would HAVE to update some of their songs, eventually, the several dozen that would clearly be improved by adding harmonies and / or keys (and Pro Guitar and Pro Bass, while they are at it).

Alas, we aren't getting any more DLC after March 19th*, so even I would agree that making RB3 versions of legacy songs would not be a good use of resources, at this point. Especially since we seem to be going out with a bang, lots of epic tracks lately, hooray for Harmonix.

*not official, but c'mon, it's pretty clear

Another reason adding pro upgrades is easier than releasing a RB3 version is that the former doesn't require remixing the songs. You just associate the pro chart with the already mixed guitar or bass stem. To add a keyboard part you have to make a new keyboard stem, and you have to make a new "rest of the tracks" stem that doesn't have the keys. Same logic should apply for harmonies.

You are overstating the importance of "the community". It's about sales. If RB3 versions sold well enough, there would be more of them, regardless of how badly the various forum trolls behaved.

If only a negligible amount of people complained, they wouldn't have stopped with the Queen pack.

At the time of the Queen pack I didn't really care about RB3 versions one way or the other, but with the quantity of DLC we've been getting lately, they should just focus on new songs.

All I wanted was The Final Countdown RB3 Version. Sadly, it'll probably never happen.

I really wish that the Kickstarter model worked in cases like this. I hope my retirement account appreciates that I'm not going to be tempted into sacrificing my golden years just to be able to sing the harmony parts to Chicago or The Cars or R.E.M. or Steely Dan.

... which, technically, I can do on my own at any time, I just can't get Rock Band to tell me how accurately I'm doing it. I bet I could even find the keyboard parts charted on line, if I looked hard enough, and I could join in (again, without being scored) on my trusty Kawai keyboard.

You could just buy a microphone and some recording software if you wanted to rate your performance. I know it wouldnt be as fun as playing it in RB but you would have a much easier time doing that down the line than getting those features added to the legacy songs.
