are band hero ps2 instruments compatable with ps3?

    howdy yall,

so i picked up a ps2 band hero bundle today at sears for $12! what a steal! The real question is...is it compatable with ps3? It says its instruments are wireless so i think that its compatable between the two. However do any of you out there know if these instruments are compatable

I remember correctly that Guitar Hero guitars are not cross-compatible with the PS3. I don't know about the drums.

Guitars up to and including World Tour have a PS2-controller-port dongle and thus don't work with the PS3, having no such port. The World Tour drum kit and mic are USB and cross-compatible but the guitar is not.

GH5 and Band Hero kits include USB-dongle guitars that *are* cross-compatible with the PS3 (and thus are actually incompatible with some of the earlier Guitar Hero games on PS2!). They didn't make any PS2-specific hardware for GH5/BH/DJHero - they made all the gear USB-interfaced and functional on both systems.

As for the older PS2-controller port guitars, they are compatible if you have a PS2 to USB adaptor. My girlfriend regularly uses a GH Aerosmith guitar, cause she hates the RB strum bars.

    hey guys,

so i figured id open the box and see if it worked because my friend said he would buy it for what i paid. Turns out it worked flawlessly, thanks for the help guys, just one more thing.

are guitar hero 3, metallica, van halen, and aerosmith compatable with the guitar/ drums, (i figure metallica and van halen will work) but gh 3 and aerosmith came out before band hero, so im thinking its not going to register

I've heard some complaints about HOPOs not registering reliably through such adapters, though.

Sorry for the necro bump, but I was wondering, how exactly did you get the PS2 Band Hero guitar to work with the PS3? I just got a brand new PS2 Band Hero Super kit, and as far as I can tell, it only has a wireless PS2 controller dongle included with the guitar. The drums and the microphone are USB so that's all good, but I am at a loss as to how to get this guitar to work via USB.

There is a USB to MIDI connector in the box... Does that have something to do with it? I can't figure out what it's for.

To add: I just watched an unboxing on Youtube and the guitar in their kit had the USB dongle - not the PS2 dongle included in my kit - is this a factory error?

Could be. Could be someone returned the box to a store with incorrect stuff (Midi adapter? WTH? Has *Hero ever had anything that interfaces with midi?) and the store just blindly resealed+resold rather than returned to manufacturer. Could be that Activion changed the contents of the box at some point in production or on a refurb line.
