    Favorite Film Soundtrack

I haven't found any thread like this one on the History of Rock forums.

If you had to pick a single film soundtrack that you particularly enjoy, on its own or while watching the film, what would it be? If you have a hard time choosing, pick the most unusual one, otherwise I get a feeling everybody's going to mention Morricone, Herrmann or Williams.

I'll break the ice with my favorite soundtrack: Akira's soundtrack by Geinoh Yamashirogumi.
It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now.

Actually, I think this is a really good thread

Now this may sound a bit cheesy to some people but my favorite movie soundtrack (and overall score for that matter) is from Tim Burton's 1988
horror-comedy "Beetlejuice." I spent a very long time trying to track down the cd as it contains some of my most beloved piano segments ever written by Danny Elfman. His melodies still captivate me, even to this day.

As a runner-up I have to go with a second horror film, 1982's "Cat People" which has an amazing soundtrack composed by Giorgio Moroder. The opening track "Putting Out The Fire" is also sung by none other than Rock Legend, David Bowie.

Never really payed attention to too many film soundtracks, but I do like the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (US version) soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

Snakes On A Plane shaped most of my high school music listening. Through that album I fell in love with Cobra Starship, The Academy Is..., Gym Class Heroes, and The Sounds. Only one I still listen to is The Sounds but each of them hold a special place in my heart.

Can this include television? Because Jim Dooley's score for Pushing Daisies is my favorite thing ever.

Other random film scores that I enjoy, off the top of my head: Alan Silvestri's work on Night at the Museum, Aaron Zigman & Alexandre Desplat's collaborations for Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium and basically anything by Michael Giacchino. If it instills a childlike sense of wonder, chances are I love it. I definitely have to mention Jon Brion's theme for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as well, which has haunted me since the first time I heard it.
So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, good night.

Tough choice, but you know, if I really had to pick only one, I just might might have to go with Daft Punk's soundtrack for TRON: Legacy. It had been literally over a decade since I had picked up on anything from a movie soundtrack, and even longer since I had liked an entire score. TRON: Legacy had me hooked from the first note to the last, and tracks from the audio CD still get regular rotation on my iPod. In my opinion this is the best blend of modern electronica and classic orchestra ever to grace a movie screen, and one of the best movie soundracks period.
It's all right. Everything will work out fine.

Important thing to include: whether this is soundtracks, or just scores.

If just scores, Tron: Legacy or Out of Africa.

If Soundtracks, Purple Rain and Royal Tenenbaums, also the Life Aquatic soundtrack by Seu Jeorge.
