Could anyone who's been on these boards for a while give me an idea of how seriously Harmonix takes these suggestions?
Thanks! It's so cool seeing all these new members claiming they're joining just to post in this thread. Makes the time I've spent on it seem worthwhile. As do all the posts.

This involves finding a multi-track master recording, signing deals with record companies and the artist, and then programming it for the game, 4 instruments, 4 difficulties, plus animations and then checking for bugs. Somewhere it was said to be a 3-6 month process overall. If we keep pushing, and/or contact Cake themselves, it will probably happen eventually.

Emailing Cake and telling them how much we love their music, how we want to play it in rock band can't hurt at all.
That's great insight! I couldn't have said it better myself. I did send an email to CAKE's manager, but haven't heard anything back (not did I really expect to). All I'm doing is planting the seed.

Here is the thread where the DLC process is explained in depth.

With the success of DLC so far (2.5 million dowloads) artists that were less inclined to sign contracts with MTV games will probably allow thier songs in the game. What would be ideal is if bands actually actively approached MTV to get songs into the game. I can only hope we get to this point.

I think Short Skirt/Long Jacket has about the best bassline ever. I'm all for this.

Every time I play Rock Band now, after a few songs, I start wishing for some Cake. Commissioning a Symphony in C is one of my favorite songs of all time, I can only wait and hope now. I E-mailed Cake regarding DLC and submitted the songs via this website, so there isn't much left I can do, other than keeping this thread active.

Haha, that first line is going in the quotes at the top my first post.

"Commissioning a Symphony in C" is a hella fun song! I can play it (for real) on bass (it's a fairly easy bassline, but fun) and sing along at the same time. So if that song does make it, that'll be the first thing I do when I play it.

You said you e-mailed CAKE (thanks!), can I ask what e-mail address you used? I have one for their manager, but not one for the band.

Thanks for all you've done! I appreciate it. Cheers for helping to keep this thread alive!

I took that as assurance that so long as my email was cordial and concise, the message would get through.

That is the only email address I could find on the official website. Where did you find a manager's email?
