This week is not great. The first time I have been disappointed. But people we have a TON of DLC and this is not the end of the world. Guess what next week new songs or hey how bout playing some of the ones we already have.. yeah you might say well I played them a million times.. didn't stop anyone with GH1 and 2.
I never was with the call for Harmonix to explain their DLC choices but I am starting to fall in that camp. I cant believe that when picking a band like Faith no More you pick a song that most have never heard of. If this is a game where we can bring in more people who may never have played these games a song like this aint getting it done.. You pick Falling to Pieces plain and simple.. yup its overplayed but its very recognizable and that's what people want. Its fun to discover new songs on the disc not though DLC. If its as simple as a chart writer at Harmonix loves that song and gets it put in the game then they need to revaluate their processes. Sometimes musicians (harmonix has a ton of them) although very respected try to get to cute with their "Oh this is a great song" crap. My cousin is in a very successful band and he had his ideas for songs for this game and I threw up in my shoes.
You had a juggernaut of a machine going but these leaks for next month that are just OK and a bad start to February is not going to help catch Activisions name recognition sales with GH.
As you can see name recognition in the rhythm game category is everything and if you guys weren't paying attention song recognition works in DLC very much the same way..
Keep up the hard work. I respect the heck out of the effort you have put forth I just hope we are not starting to see the beginning of the end with slam dunk DLC.
Well hopefully with time we will start to receive well known rock hits but for now this game is still in its early stages, it hasnt fully expanded its wings yet, so heres to optimism....cheers!!
on topic I never heard of any of these songs but I d/l B-52 because it had a catchy tunes and im sure a few of my chick friends will grow to like it and Dr. Love is just awesome...so yeah I will pass FNM this week...not my cup of tea....
cheers!
I'm ecstatic about the B-52's, though i tried singing it and there was NO way for me to match the pitch. Still a good song for this..i would know....i recommended it.
We Care A Lot.........i love any song that has the lyrics.....Transformers: More than meets the eye.
Calling Dr. Love.......there's always room for kiss, although i do agree that there are better kiss songs for this.
Yeah, but I read somewhere that they want to satisfy both ends of the spectrum with their dlc. They want to release songs that many people have heard of, and songs that only the most dedicated fans will recognize. Example, if they released Stairway to Heaven, you'd have the commercial people being ecstatic, and the people groaning that their are better song choices for it. Then if they released Achilles Last Stand, you'd have the dedicated fans happy and the commercial people complaining that they've never heard of it.
Long story short, they can't make everyone happy with every release.

Catch Activision?
DLC for GH3 is terrible, tons of people post in other forums constantly how dissappointed they are witH GH3 they ran out and bought GH3 essentially because of the good feeling GH2 was. Most are ignorant that it is a Neversoft game not Harmonix.
Second, the DLC purchases made for RB surpasses GH3 and it has LESS users, and that is that Activision counts the free Halo theme a "downloaded song".
Finally, the fact you have to buy Rock Band in a bulk package, or just be relegated to use the GH guitars (360 only because Activision shafted PS3 players big time).. might be putting some people off. When you can buy individual instruments expect sales to go up further.
If you had to ask Harmonix why.. I think the answer would be the following (just guesstimating here):
- We know bands like Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin are amazing.. but they refuse to put their songs on RB, or want 98 million dollars per song and our first born children.
- A lot of these songs were completed before RB came out, they are our "backburner" songs in case we do not have ready what we are trying to get ready.
- We plan on covering a WIDE variety of rock styles...
- Some songs we simply cannot adapt to RB, some we can only if we do a cover version for them even if we had the rights to use master tracks (Like Ten Speed).
When they can't get big names, or really well known songs you better believe they are going to dip into their lesser known but still good for Rock Band. You think Siva is the Smashing Pumpkins best known most popular song? You really think HMX believes that?
I think that's why other users on the board down on the complainers, because you don't phrase it more realistically like "I really hope HMX can strike a deal for Radiohead/Pink Floyd/Bloc Party/Led Zeppelin" you say "HMX how can you be so dumb!!! Gimme some AC/DC stupids!!! What is this obscure stuff STUPID!?!"
Do you guys complain about Bang Camaro, Tribe, Death of the Cool, or the other bonus bands? Did anyone give them a shot and play them more than once? Hasn't GH2 or RB had you a play 1-2 songs you had never heard before and ended up liking after playing it for a while? Do you like every song on the RB tracklist? Even if you don't like it, do you still have fun trying to 5* it on Expert with friends?
Two questions:
Where is Calling Dr. Love? I went to the PS3 online store and could not find it.
and Is Champagne Supernova only part of the Oasis pack? Someone/anyone!
One thing to take into consideration is that some DLC songs will be low-level experts. The reason I'm dissapointed in this weeks DLC is because they sound completely and utterly boring for guitar and especially drums but thats because I play expert and I can't see these being fun at all. But maybe someone who is still playing low-level experts will happy with it (and this crowd does need to be catered to). I say maybe though because even then, these all sound uber repetitive and just.. not fun when translated from a fun song to listen to, to a song in Rock Band to play along with. I love being introduced to new bands and types of music through RB (and GH for that matter), I look forward to it actually. But first and foremost I want it to be a fun gaming experience as that is the reason I bought the game. Thats why there's probably a majority of people hatin' on this weeks DLC, because ALL three songs sound like they have that potential, or rather, lack of.
I'm definitely not hatin' on HMX. One off-week with DLC, big woopty doo. So much has already been provided and will be provided. I just [really] hope that odd (and imo, frankly bad) weeks like these don't become the norm.
