it's cool to see you guys taking an active role in the forum community. something that a lot of game developers fail miserably at.

i'm a mod at a couple of forums, one of which is sarcasticgamer.com (feel free to remove that if it's not allowed), a pretty well known, and rapidly growing community similar to this one. the thing that helps keep that forum at tidy as possible is they have chosen people they trust to moderate the forums.

mostly things like filtering out the spamming and the baiting and the flaming. disciplinary things are taken very seriously, and i, personally, would rather let the administrators be the ones to drop the hammer.

what i would suggest is to find 3 or 4 people that frequent most of the threads (not just the ones with the name of the band they like) and are active and have a good relationship with you, and make them moderators, giving them the task to keep the forums clean.

i realize that would be quite the job, but i would imagine there are plenty of people out there willing to do the job.

hope that helps and keep up the great work guys!

It needs a suggestions and feedback forum where people can post members who are being out of line, new ideas for the forums, etc.

in the User CP there should be an option to subscribe to your posts. Then you can simply hit the User CP link and that will show you all threads you've posted in.

Maybe a more organized Ultimate Setlist section. There really is no need for there to be hundreds of threads requesting Tool, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, GnR, etc.
agreed. not sure how this can be done, but it would be easier/clearer for everyone.

edit: perhaps subforums for genres? also, the same 20 or 30 bands keep coming up over and over and over, dozens of threads... what if there were alphabetical stickies for those? scouring through the forum shows 50 different threads for "Pink Floyd", "System of a Down", "Foo Fighters" etc etc. if those were combined you could really get a clear idea of what people are clamoring for (and users would know where to post their requests if it involves said bands). more obscure requests would be tougher to organize, though.

also, there could be a naming format that the thread titles must follow. band/group name only... extra details (albums, songs) can be listed in the actual posts. thread titles could be organized alphabetically; users would have a clear idea of where to post and it would make for a very organized request forum. i agree with you guys thers hundreds of the same stuff

    Cool

I personally have a taste in music that gets me flamed a LOT. I love everything from the Beatles and David Bowie to Fall Out Boy and MCR. Of course, I get flamed for the latter, which is just silly. I could go on and on about Foreigner, Lynard Skynard, The Who, Tool, etc, but I have to wince whenever I agree with someone that Panic! is amazing or that I love Thursday and 30 Second to Mars because I know the comments are gonna come. "Dude, you are an idiot with no taste in Music." "You like MCR? Just go back to cutting yourself and gtfo these forums." blah blah blah.

I don't mind when people say they hate something, but implying that it is WRONG for me to like something or that I have a stupid taste in music is just wrong. MCR is talented; if they weren't, they wouldn't be as popular. I should be entitled to my own music taste. I don't flame people for liking A7X or Iron Maiden, even though I hate those bands b/c I try to be respectful. That's the kind of community I would like.

I think that if you introduced a "mark" system, giving people marks on their accounts for flaming, eventually resulting in a suspension after 5 or 10 offenses, and a ban after more marks.

People could report comments made in their thread, then the mods could check it out and decide if the comment is worthy of a mark or a warning to the offender. I think any kind of personal attack on someone or on someone's musical tastes would be worthy of getting a mark on an account.

I completely agree; you shouldn't automatically get flamed just because "it's the internets!" I wouldn't mind you guys swinging the old ban-hammer a little more often. Especially with awesome death metal in the background.

This is the kind of post that makes me think it will be hard to build that community feeling on a board like this, I signed up around launch time, so I could get game info and share some yucks. But you always get a sense from the 'old regs' that you're not really wanted here and that you've ruined a good thing.

That, in my view, is something that needs to be addressed.
