All three systems are geared towards different demographics. Everyone's going to buy the console that best fits their needs and wants first, and then after that it's up to specific exclusive titles and series to convince buyers that it's worth putting out the money for another system. Xbox360 and PS3 are both lacking in that category, which is why most people only have one or the other. The Wii, on the other hand, has almost its entire catalog of games released as exclusives, and that's why they are selling so well to almost every demographic. Most of the 360-exclusives turned out to be disappointing, and most of the PS3 exclusives are either not out yet or ended up being released for the 360 anyway. If either company wants to start converting people over to their side, they're going to need to start releasing quality games exclusive to their console.
