1. Sublime History - All The Love They Found
Sublime was an American band that originated in Long Beach, California. Sublime consisted of three members: Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Bud Gaugh (drums), and Eric Wilson (bass guitar). The band achieved major mainstream success with their self-titled third album; however, Nowell died of a heroin overdose, in his hotel room on the West side of San Francisco, shortly before it was released, resulting in the band's split in 1996. Worldwide, Sublime has sold 17 million albums, including about 10 million in the U.S. alone.

Combining a variety of genres, such as reggae, punk, ska, funk, and hip hop, Sublime released just two albums during its first seven years. The band played its first gig on the Fourth of July in 1988 in a small club in Long Beach, California, having played as a garage band earlier that year. Eventually, Sublime gained a large following within the Long Beach area; after concentrating on playing live shows, the band released its debut album 40 Oz. to Freedom in 1992 under lead singer Brad Nowell's record label Skunk Records. Initially being sold exclusively at live Sublime shows, the album became widely known in the greater Los Angeles area after rock radio station KROQ began playing the song "Date Rape" from the album. The radio exposure led to Sublime being signed to MCA in 1994 to release Robbin' the Hood, which was regarded as having a more experimental type of sound deviating from the style of Sublime's debut album.

2. Why I Want Them In Rock Band - Their Influence
Sublime had a tremendous impact on 90's rock. I think they have earned and deserve more recognition in today's music world. I discovered Sublime through the song 'Date Rape', I thought it had a strong message represented in a hilarious way. Humorous in tone, the song ends with the victimizer being sent to prison and being raped by a larger inmate. It can therefore be seen as a cautionary anti-rape anthem, or as poetic justice, or revenge, as the man is subjected to sexual violence similar to that which he committed (similar to the Nirvana song Rape Me). The band simply enjoyed writing about life and what happened, they wrote fun tunes and serious tunes as well.

That's why I think they could use some Sublime content in Rock Band. This thread has a purpose simlar to the Cake thread, to group any fans together and have them decide whether or not Sublime should have Rock Band DLC, and if so, what tracks would best represent them.

3. Sublime Songs - Examples
"Date Rape", "What I Got", "Santeria", "Wrong Way", "April 29th 1992". These are just to name some hits from the band, but they had many other great songs, "Right Back", "What Happened", "Saw Red", "Don't Push" and others. Even B Side and demo tracks that would be just as good, from albums like 'Secondhand Smoke' and the three disc 'Everything Under The Sun'.

B sides I like include tracks like 'Romeo', 'Real Situation', 'Foolish Fool', 'Prophet'. etc...

Any of these songs would be fun to sing and play along with.

Hell, in my highest dreams, I'd love the entire Sublime album to be playable (Sublime's third album, that is.)

4. New Life - Rome = the new frontman of Sublime?

Quote:
Last night the two remaining members of Sublime, bass player Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gough reunited the band with a new singer, Rome, from Newport Beach. It's the first time since May 25th, 1996 that Eric and Bud have played under the Sublime name. That night singer Bradley Nowell died in a San Francisco hotel.

The reunited Sublime played a 'secret' show at the Cantino Los Tres Hobres in Sparks, Nevada. Sublime played with Bud's other band Del Mar. Del Mar posted this on their MySpace page:

Del Mar & Sublime

"So Del Mar played the gig at Cantina last night in Reno, it was packed and amazing. What really ****ing killed it was SUBLIME reuniting and playing with new singer, Rome. We're ****ing stoked for Bud, Eric, and Rome- Bud's still playing with Del Mar, and Sublime doesn't have any firm tour plans or anything YET, but we'll keep you posted on their progress. Peace!"

A few comments have ben left around the internet from people who attended the show:

From COS: "I was there last night. It was Eric, Bud, & Rome. You can never replace Brad.. but it was a bad-ass show!!! Rome has a great voice, guitar skills, and killer energy. It does more justice to the music to play it live then to let it rest forever only on recordings!! The crowd was thirsty for this show and the energy was surreal!! They dedicated the set to Brad & said it was the first time they had played those songs live in about 15 years! They played a new song too which sounded pretty bad ass!"

From OCW: "I was there and while totally wrong, it was fun. There was a good vibe in the place. A good time was had."

You can hear some of Rome's music on his MySpace."

What does this mean for the band and, perhaps more importantly, their Rock Band status? Who knows?...

5. Credits - Crucial Thanks
Thanks Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Bud Gaugh (drums), and Eric Wilson (bass guitar). And thanks to Lou Dog for being an awesome mascot for the band. RIP Lou Dog and Bradley.

Thanks to pmpboarder for the thread idea.

Thanks to Harmonix for the shoulder pain I got playing Guitar Hero so much and back pain from Rock Band. Thanks for the games too...

Thanks to posters for helping keep Sublime and their music alive and well!

And thanks to Rome for, at least what I've heard so far, being a good successor to Brad.

Link to thread quotes concerning Sublime.

Nice! Great job on the thread! I posted this in your first Sublime thread, but this one's official, so...

That said, I would absolutely LOVE Sublime in Rock Band. They have some awesome songs that would fit so beautifully in this game.

Someone needs to make an Official Sublime DLC Thread. Get all the votes tallied in one organized place. I would, but I'm still working on my CAKE one. It takes a lot of time if it's done right. (Haha, or maybe I'm doing it wrong, and that's why it's taking so long...)

EDIT: This custom GH2 video will give you an idea of what "Santeria" could look like in Rock Band (at least, the guitar and bass). The vocals are obviously incredible and the drums are fun, too. That's a 10/10 song right there.
EDIT: Thanks for the credit.

yeah I mean not their best(don't get me wrong its really really good, great even IMO, but I would think that a lot of more casual fans probably haven't heard it before, and considering HMX penchant for trying to kick knowledge on people in terms of delving deeper into certain bands discography, maybe this would be a good fit. Same in the End and Seed too for that matter. Geez I just hope they put the entire Sublime CD on there, ok I gotta stop now, I just really enjoy that CD), but it would probably be pretty cool to play on the game. I'm in agreement with everyone though any of the songs already named. This is another of the many bands that if they were offered as DLC, I would buy every song put out by them regardless which one

Yeah, Seed is another good thrash like song and Same In The End is on my greatest Sublime song playlist, another great song. I also agree with putting the entire CD up for download, I said in the OP I'd love that, but it's sadly unlikely.

And crazed, I think Pawn Shop is a bit too long and slow for Rock Band, and isn't one of their best songs, or even one of the best from Sublime. But better that than nothing.

Thanks for helping keep Sublime alive!
