Has RB Inspired You to Buy Real Instruments?

My daughter and I hadn't played any rhythm based game (sans DDR) prior to November of last year when my oldest daughter's friend brought over GH3. After hearing a lot of great things about the upcoming RB we purchased it on midnight on the release date.

Since then my daughter (who is only 12) can play guitar on Expert and has many gold stars. To me this is amazing considering I struggle on Hard.

Yesterday we went to Guitar Center and picked up a Strat starter pack. She's already playing some easy songs after just a few hours of looking at tabs from the internet.

My personal goal is to start playing real bass (I already have one my father left to me).

So, has anyone else taken the plunge and picked up real instruments?

I play Rock Band/Guitar *****o because I already loved the real instruments and seeing I love Video Games too.
But I guess everyone got their own way of learning and speed, but I say if shes that good on Expert, on a real Guitar shell be insanly good in no time (I say Real Guitars are easier to play than trying to follow colors lol)

I was already a Bass player before I got Rock Band. Consequently, that has made me much more interested in the drumming in Rock Band. I'd rather play real guitar/bass, but I can't play the real drums.

But I'm glad to hear that you and your daughter are inspired. Definitely jump right in and have fun with it.

You might want to consider getting your daughter some lessons (or even yourself) so that she learns the proper way to do things from the beginning. A good foundation is very important.

I used to work in a record store that was next to a guitar repair shop and I know a lot of musicians who have tried to teach me to play numerous different instruments over the years. Guitar Hero 2 actually got me to go back and give guitar another try. I was taught right handed and I was never very good at it, but I can play alright for a beginner left-handed!

No but I did buy a real pair of anti-vibe drums sticks along with a boom mic attachment (already had a mic stand).

Lessons are already being looked into. My oldest daughter has many friends that play in bands that would be willing to tutor for free.

I'm kicking myself in the rear as my father was a real musician who could have taught us both guitar and bass (and a few other instruments). Sadly, I never asked him for lessons. He passed away almost 2 years ago. Among the things he left to our family is a 1950's Gibson. One of my brothers is storing it at his home. He can't play. I'm hoping that my daughter will become good enough someday to earn the ownership of that guitar. It's a beauty.

well I bought a real drum pedal & mute and built my own replacement dum pedal and I got some new sticks.

Also I find myself making up little rythms on the set when it's not turned on if that counts

A guitar, drum sticks, and a Shure pg58 microphone, so I could get a mic that has no lag.

I bought a drum throne (stool). As with many things in life, proper positioning is everything. :-)
