Default OFFICIAL SL drum kit pics thread

Here are some pics of an SL set compared to a "new version"? EL kit

picture 1 is the SL serial

picture 2 shows the difference in distance from head to casing on each model

picture 3 shows the drum casing for each. Note: I put towel strips in the hollow spaces for noise reduction and the foam square in the center was put there by me too, so please ignore those 2 add ons of the SL side.

picture 4 shows the bottom side of each drum head. Notice the rubber "pop ins" are much thicker on the SL and are much harder to remove (have to use a screw driver to pop them out) where the ELs are very easy to just pop off.

picture 5 shows the difference between version 2 and version 3? kick pedal
I think the reason the version 3 pedal is silent is that you can see in the pic that the version 2 has almost hard plastic type stoppers and the version 3 has very soft rubber stoppers

For those who think the SL kits are a myth, here's your unicorn.

Here's a couple more.

One is a full view of my SL kit where you can see I put foam tubing on the legs to damper vibration. Surprisingly, this actually works.

Also is a top view of the foam rubber pads, we have all seen this before. I did 2mm on the outer drums and 4mm (2mmx2) on the inner drums.

I'll take the center drums apart and show the differences there later. They take a little longer to get apart and my daughter will only nap for so long, lol.

Odd but your SL kit looks exactly like the EL kit I got few weeks ago. Other than a SL in the number they are identical. Odd they painted the model number on those, mine have always been burned into the kits.

It's just a QM with a different serial then.

It looks exactly the same, though you'd have to pull the sensor cage apart to confirm it. Maybe there's something different in the electronics of it.

Your pedals are version 1 and version 2, respectivly.

Thanks for providing the detective work and pictures

edit: I see white around the sensor cage. Did you do anything to that? Maybe it's just reflection from the flash on the sensor metal.

I'll take it apart again and take the cage apart too. Not sure if that "white" is from the flash or not to be honest.

As for the kick pedal. My mistake on the EL kick I have, it is version 1 for sure. However. Your pic of the version 2 pedal seems to have the same "hard plasticy rubber" stoppers. Is this true? I ask cause my "version 2" pedal, the stoppers are WAY softer than the other kick pedal I have. Maybe that is the only change from the version 2 you have pictured in your thread. I also think this soft stopper makes the kick pedal more durable.

I don't have a QM to compare to, but is the QM space between the head and case as small as the SL I have pictured?

You know more about the guts than I do, I'll do my best to give detailed pics, but if there is something specific you would like to see a pic of, let me know. Again, since I don't have a QM to compare to I don't know what to take pics of that might show the difference or reasoning as to why it bares the "SL" paint. Hopefully with the help of you or others with QMs I can provide that info. That way we all will know once and for all if the SL is the kit to have or the EL.

As for markings on the box, I can NOT find anything on either set that matches or indicates by numbers on the box, what is inside. I figured the stand alones would at least have a marking on the box to indicate, but I can't find anything.

Yeah, the stoppers on the 2nd pedal rev change some. You may have different ones, but I wouldn't really push that as another version, just a difference in the supplier.

Mechanically, it's definetly extremely similar to the QM (including your description of the rubber plugs and the head float).

I suspect the sensor cage is the same too, and it's just a flash reflection. I'm thinking either it's another factory producing the same thing (maybe the letters correspond to where it's manufactured?) They may have fixed something with the guts though, like making the d-pad suck less.

Okay, I added a closer view pic of the sensor cage taken apart (in my second post). It does look almost identical to your pics. The only possible difference I can see is the on the model I have there is a layer of tape between the plastic and the metal and then another layer between the metal and the rubber bumper on the spring. Not sure if your QM had this or not and if it makes any difference or not. I tried to peel it back half way so you can see it a little better. Also, I am assuming yours is a 2-wire connection right? Your pics all look like one wire. In mine you can see the green wire and white wire. BTW I think each wire color matches the color of the drum it goes to + white.

I'll prolly get the center gut pics up late tonight or tomorrow.

Yeah, that's basically the same as what I have. The reason you can't see them in my pics is the lead wires are white and grey, which with my crappy photography, doesn't look very distinct. In my pic the sensor is turned over, so you can't see the tape on the back.

I doubt I could visually tell the difference between the guts, so I'm not sure taking it apart will help. I'd just leave it alone.
