Wow, why not to buy an Xbox 360
Let me explain..
I had gotten my 360 about a year after its release. I thought "oh *****in, now I'm playing next gen blah blah" ok yah great, so, one day about 6 months later I get a nice red ring and it's a brick.
I'm sure everyones heard the story before.
Now I'll get to the point..
Rock Band came out during the time I had the next 360. Lots of songs have come out, and I've grabbed a bunch of them. Last week my 2nd 360 got a case of the pinkeye too, so now im on my 3rd 360.
Now, when you get something off of Xbox Live, it's bound to the serial number of that unit. MS knows about this and said theyd do something about it - a year ago. So, any DLC I got before the boston pack I have to be connected to Live in order to play, otherwise the game will just sit and the song will never load.
So for me thats 45 of 51 songs I cant play unless I'm online.
Buyer beware.

Redownload the songs you already bought on your new Xbox.

Sucks... sorry to hear.
I originally got mine about a year and a half ago and within 2 weeks it stopped reading discs. Took in it, got it replaced and things have been good since.
Two friends have had red rings though, one has had his NIC die, and two others have been fine with their original system.
Crap shoot for sure.

Won't work. Somehow the serial of the unit you orginally grabbed the content on is stored somewhere on MS's end of Live. (This was the first thing I had tried.)

i dont really see the big deal. Im sure MS will patch this some day, but they do have free Live silver, so its not like you have to pay for gold to use your stuff, just be connected to live. Doesnt sound that bad to me. IDK though, i guess that really easy auto-log in feature COULD get annoying, right?

Red rings of death is covered by a 3 year warranty. it just happened to me, they actually pay for the shipping back so it costs me nothing.
the downloadable files aren't coded to the serial. sort of. when you download a song you and anyone else's live profile can play it on that xbox. you can then download it on any number of other xboxes and play it - but only by you. this works, I've done this on about 20 songs now that I can play with my account on mine and my roommate's xbox. just have to recover my profile on the other xbox, but hey, it works. no one else plays on my xbox either, if they did they wouldn't be able to play those songs.

The big deal is that I'm bound to a service in order to use any of the content. Some people actually have friends and go outside to events called parties where they play games like Rock Band, and an internet connection is not always present. That COULD get pretty annoying, right?

Exactly. You have to be connected to Live.

Are you using the same hard drive and just redownloaded and overwrote the old files?
I had the same problem. I used my old hardrive and I fixed that problem by deleting the old files and downloaded them again...now I can play all my songs logged in or not and so can my wife on her Silver account.
Hope you get this fixed.

Have to call Xbox warranty dept and request that all your DLC be re-licensed to the new serial #.
The process takes 20-30 days, but they do it all the time.
You may have to push to get them to do it though, several will tell you it can't be done (they're wrong) and others will tell you to just wait for the patch coming "soon".
Just keep on them though and keep asking to be escalated, you'll eventually get to someone who can start the relicensing process for you.
