Rock Band Forums: Code of Conduct

    http://www.rockband.com/forum-rules

Read it, love it, learn it.

Give us your feedback. These are *your* forums as much as they are ours. If you see something missing from that list, or wish to have a semantic argument about what a "troll" is, then please respond to this thread. Consider this part 1 of a work in progress, designed to outline expected behavior here on the Rock Band forums.

Again, if you feel something is missing or you wish to sound off on the subject of forum etiquette and rules, please respond to this thread.

Also, check out this sweet article I read earlier this morning:
    http://www.gamasutra.com/view/featur..._a_.php?page=1

There's a lot of pretty relevant community-related stuff in there (it should be required reading for signing up here )
Fun to watch... dangerous to touch!

I agree with that second link you posted. I am overall impressed with this community, but I don't have much forum experiance to compare it too. I did goto the PS3 forum because I am having some problems and was accused repeatedly of being some XBox fan boy trying to cause problems since my total posts was something like 3. The community does do damage to the game more than the game does. I am personally thankful for no PS3 chat in Rock Band so that I don't have to hear most of that stuff.

I have had many great converstions in here and met some great PS3 friends.

Forums behavior should follow playground rules, but even playgrounds have bullies.

I think you should merge "flaming" and "harassment" into one. The fewer online jargon terms you use the easier it is to understand "the rules."

After all, there was a lot of fair and legitimate criticism in the "Still Alive" thread that shouldn't be taken as "insult" even if there was some trolling/flaming. (Is this new list related to that?)

I also think that page should contain an explanation on when and how to contact a moderator when/if someone does have a problem.

It could also include simpler rules like "how signatures work and how to keep them small", how avatars work, etc. No need for only negative stuff :/

It also maybe could include a link to the FAQ (although the FAQ could probably be updated itself).

Oh...THAT's why my edited repost of the original STILL ALIVE news item was removed. Heh. Well, I figured since it was April Fool's Day I could get away with some takin' the piss outta the people fighting over such a thing, but that's cool. I'll try to behave in the future.

I have a question about this part:

Phishing/Scamming: Any attempt made to extract users’ personal information, including Gamertags or PSNs will be met with an immediate and permanent ban. This includes informally sharing account information.
Does this mean we cannot ask people to share their gamertags for the purpose of playing with them?(ala the "360 users with all dlc" thread)

Or does this mean trying to trick people into giving up their gt's and passwords?

The Gamasutra link is a nice read, but unfortunately might be a tad over the heads of anyone who ironically fills the criterea of "gaming idiocy".

The intent is not to discourage user networking (such as the thread you described). That would be perfectly reasonable.

I believe the intent is twofold:

    1. Discourage users from attempting to steal user account information for malicious purposes.

    2. Discourage users from "sharing" their account information for the purposes of exchanging DLC via the PS3 interface.

U know when I play online I don't hear any cursing and stuf on PSN. These experiances must be on Live right?

I gotcha. I just wanted to check because I would hate to get banned for something I thought was okay.

I figured it was what you mentioned, but I just wanted to make sure.

no. they are on both systems, usually dependent on the game in general. The more popular a game the more influx you would have of undesirable people. Generally Rock band people tend to be nices but for example call of duty you will have individuals with poor taste on both systems

My only thought on the forum rules is that I love the wording of one rule.
" - Posting misleading links (“Rick Rolling”)"

Haha how depressing is it that we now had to make and use the term "Rick Rolling" in making forum
    guidelines....

Edit: The only thing I would question regarding bumping is that sometimes there is a time dependant variable involved. I know sometimes I'll be up late at night and occasionaly you will see posts that no one really even gets the chance to view and open for discussion. I have seen people post in the early early morning and the general tendancy of them would be to create their own thread and inevetably bumping the other few peoples threads back further and by the time more people come on, it is already back a few pages. In this situation, the user can not bump the thread to try to create a discussion and at the same time they would not really be able to start a new thread later, because it is also listed that repeated threads would be closed...... maybe something like "repetitive bumping" would be better placed? I dunno just throwing it out there
