No they're not. They're Niche, and as you've said, more niche than iron maiden. The only speed metal band that will ever be in the rock and roll hall of fame is metallica. Slayer inspired a generation of metalheads, true, but this is the rock and roll hall of fame, not the metal hall of fame. Slayer won't get in because only a small number of people get in every year, and there are much more deserving and more influential acts than Slayer (and Maiden, for that matter)

Really tons more influential than Maiden? You seem to consider them "niche" because almost every metal band after them was inspired in some way. Their early material could be compared to other NWoBHM bands of the time but they were in a league of their own. Come 1982 no one had ever heard anything like Number of the Beast, they defined modern heavy metal.

Not liking them is fine (although I have the feeling you haven't looked much past their handful of hit singles) but saying they aren't important and "niche" is downright ignorant. They put metal on the international spectrum and really added a new life to it that no one had herd before.

Slayer influenced a much more underground genre but I would still say they deserve a place but most likely at a later date once bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are accepted.

Radiohead - Yes. Today's current critical darlings and probably one of the bands that'll be regarded as being "classic" in the future. Some really interesting and experimental albums. One of the most popular prog bands since Pink Floyd.

Sorry but Radiohead is not Prog, i think Thom Yorke would be insulted if they were considered Prog, they are an Alternative-Indie band, i know not so much Indie anymore but their fan base is huge with that music, Definately not Prog <--lol

That argument is as weak as the "But, it's called Rock Band." argument.

Same as I explain Sabbath being in there. There are metal artists, soul artists, blues artists, pop artists, rap artists, and even country artists in the rock and roll hall of fame, but as an example from the last genre - Johnny Cash is in the hall of fame, but Waylon Jennings is NOT. The number of people inducted each year is very very limited - and it's likely that your favorite band will never get in.

Here's the part when you're ******ed - I've already mentioned that I was a fan of Iron Maiden. In fact, the last song that played on my iPhone was number of the beast. I also really like My Bloody Valentine, but they'll probably not get inducted either. Whether someone gets in or not has nothing to do with whether I like them, it's whether a small group of industry insiders thinks they deserve it. They'll probably induct either Priest or Maiden, and my money's on Priest because they were a bigger influence than Maiden. And seriously - while great musicians, Iron Maiden's lyrics are sub-par at best, and at worst ridiculous. That's enough to tip the hat over to Priest. Aside from a few missteps (turbo lover, although the song is better now that we know the backstory lol), Priest lyrics are pretty damn good.

If there was a metal hall of fame, and Slayer would be inducted in the first year. But, as much as I love Slayer, they'll never get accepted into the hall of fame, not just because of them being "niche", but honestly, they were just ripping off Venom in the first place. Slayer just happened to be much much better than Venom.

This conversation is actually kind of ridiculous, and it's getting me into "back in my day" mode. Metal used to be rebel music, now fans want Iron Maiden to be accepted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame? Darn whippersnappers!

I agree its not about liking them its about which deserve to be in or which should be not which will be. I agree with you again that priest is more likely but they both deserve to be in. I personally find Maiden's lyrics good but thats a personal thing. I thought the hall of fame was supposed to show and give respect to the most important bands of the genre not about rebelling or conforming. Maiden and Priest are both undeniably in the top 5 most important metal bands ever which is a major portion of rock so I don't see how they shouldn't be in.

It's arguable. I really consider The Who and The Kinks the earliest punk bands, but a majority of the world doesn't, they're either classic rock, or occasionally classified as pre-punk. The 3 I listed are really the only undisputable punk bands we have

Punk has it better than Metal. The only undisputably Metal band they have is Black Sabbath.
