I was not aware The Stooges, War, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith, The Ronettes, Miles Davis, The Dave Clark Five, Buddy Guy, Elvis Costello, The Righteous Brothers, Brenda Lee, Gene Pitney, The Dells, Traffic, and Little Anthony and The Imperials were all best-selling artists.If anything, I'd say the HoF has recently been at least putting some effort forth towards inducting both well-known and not-so-well known artists.
That is not to say that I fully (or even partially) support the rock hall in its endeavors, however.

The Hall of Fame does have Zappa (as it should) but it's missing some obvious eligible classics like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.

As you can tell, I dislike most metal and 80's hair bands. The inclusion of bands I never heard of are automatic no's since they must not be popular enough for me to have heard of them. I'm not saying their music isn't good but I can't say yes to something I've never heard.
