Ah, if this were only true, but judging from your posts in general, I know you know it's not.

I was not aware The Stooges, War, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith, The Ronettes, Miles Davis, The Dave Clark Five, Buddy Guy, Elvis Costello, The Righteous Brothers, Brenda Lee, Gene Pitney, The Dells, Traffic, and Little Anthony and The Imperials were all best-selling artists. If anything, I'd say the HoF has recently been at least putting some effort forth towards inducting both well-known and not-so-well known artists.

That is not to say that I fully (or even partially) support the rock hall in its endeavors, however.

There's a mix, generally, but I can't stand it when a band gets thrown in mainly for sales.

The Hall of Fame does have Zappa (as it should) but it's missing some obvious eligible classics like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.

As you can tell, I dislike most metal and 80's hair bands. The inclusion of bands I never heard of are automatic no's since they must not be popular enough for me to have heard of them. I'm not saying their music isn't good but I can't say yes to something I've never heard.

Radiohead, Primus, Neil Diamond, more Pixies, The Smiths and The Flaming Lips would rock too!

It's not based on what you like, it _should_ be based on influence.

Personally I wouldn't even classify Green Day or Dookie as punk. Maybe I would call it punk dumbed down for the masses. If they were really a punk band they would have done everything possible to sabatoge their career instead of everything possible to promote it.

Well then 80's hair bands are definately out. I mean their influence was preemptively murdered by a blond man with three chords and a song called Smells Like Teen Spirit.

That I can agree with. I haven't really seen too many cases of it happening, though. If anything, the committee has a slight bias towards older groups that may have once been popular but are now virtual unknowns in the public eye.
