Eligible, not in and should be:
    Yes
    Genesis
    Heart
    T. Rex
Pretty much sure bets to make it, I'd guess:
    RHCP
    Metallica
    Green Day
    Pearl Jam
    Nirvana
    Stevie Ray Vaughn
    Radiohead
I'm not a big enough fan to judge, but I can see there's a case:
    Iron Maiden
    Rush
    KISS
    Alice Cooper
    Megadeth
    Beck
Really good bands, but not "monumental" enough:
    Deep Purple
    Little Feat
    Squeeze
    XTC

D'oh -- got confused with those VH1 honors again, couldn't remember which was which. Fixed...

Guess my opinion they're not monumental enough doesn't count, huh?

The more I read about the Hall the more disillusioned I am.

They're the group who did Obsession, right? Nice 80's pop punk. In the same vein as Human League, maybe Simple Minds, or Tears for Fears. Of that lot, TfF is my fav. Songs from a Big Chair is a great album.

Squeeze is different in my mind. Closer to Elvis Costello (in fact, Glenn Tillbrook appears on Elvis' From a Whisper to a Scream). Tillbrook and Difford were considered to be the best songwriting duo since Lennon and McCartney by most critics I know of at the time. Squeeze's sound is more guitar-based although they always had keyboard. And Difford's lyrics are very sophisticated. Squeeze also have had quite a long career. I think they're actually touring again.

For those not familiar, here's one of my favorite songs of theirs:

    The list:
    RHCP-Probably
    Deep Purple-Yes for influence
Alice Cooper-Yes, as the collective band yes
    Metallica-Probably without my opinion
    Megadeth-Perhaps for influence
    Anthrax-Perhaps for influence
    Slayer-Perhaps for influence
    Iron Maiden-Yes
    Judas Priest-Yes
    Radiohead-Yes
Rush-I would say most definitely(they should have been in a long time ago)
    Yes-Yes
    Genesis-I don't know
King Crimson-I would say yes in terms of influence
    Blind Faith-I can't say
    Bluesbreakers- I can't say
    Alice In Chains-probably
    Pearl Jam-yes
    Soundgarden-I would say yes
    Television-I can't say
    Guns N Roses-I would say...no
KISS-I would give the spot to Alice Cooper over KISS
    Captian Beefheart-I can't say
    Beck-Jeff Beck? If so probably.
    The Smiths-I can't
    The Cure-I can't say
    Small Faces/The Faces- I can't say
    New York Dolls-I can't say
    Nine Inch Nails-Probably
The Pixies-I can't say but probably
    The Replacements-I can't say
    Stevie Ray Vaughn-I can't say(probably with time)
    T. Rex-I think they help shaped glam rock so I guess they deserve a spot
    Weezer- I wouldn't think so
    The White Stripes-I can't say
    Boston-Probably
Heart-Yes and think they would deserve that spot
    Journey-I can't say(probably will come in time)
    Bon Jovi- I can't say(
    Dire Straits-I can't say
Blink-182-no(if All the Small Things is the best song they got )
Green Day-I haven't listen to them much, but I can see it both ways by observation
    Limp Bizkit-Probably not
    Def Leppard-Probably
    Stone Temple Pilots-I can't say
    Beastie Boys-I can't say
    Linkin Park-I can't say(most likely no)
    Live-I can't say
    Nickelback-no
Smashing Pumpkins-I can't say but I like the group's work
Backstreet Boys-No(Come on this it's a Rock Hall of Fame )
    Meat Loaf-I can't say
    Motley Crue-no
    Poison-no
Blue Oyster Cult-Definite yes for me, deserving band as any
Foo Fighters-Their are somewhat good and deserve a chance
    Devo-I can't say
Spinal Tap-Probably not(won't deny that they weren't funny though ).
"Wierd" Al Yancovick-Same as Spinal Tap

I heard of almost every band on this list but I haven't listen to them all enough to make a bias judgment. Some of these bands like King Crimson, Deep Purple, and Alice Cooper should be in before some of the others for the work they did in their genre.
I wish to be a magician of words!

ok now that is out of the way, i'm curious as to why i've seen several no's to def leppard. Anyone care to give reasons?

Def Leppard(with Steve Clark, RIP) - definitely yes

Def Leppard(with Vivian) - im waiting till the beginning of next month to give judgement. A new album comes out at the end of the month and I want to see if Vivian has the stuff. So far from what i've seen of Vivian im leaning towards no, his style is too different from Steve's on top of that his voice doesn't do any good for the live performances.

    Yes:
    RHCP
    Metallica
    Judas Priest
    Rush
    Bluesbreakers
    Heart
    Dire Straits
    Pearl Jam
    BOC

Either I don't know the others well enough to decide or don't think they should be in at all.
