Absent Element...If you don't know them..they are Chris daughtry's band b-4 the super stardom and you know what ..they were very good...go to their website to listen to their stuff

As far as bands with a record deal go it would have to be hangface. A metal-ish band from Norway. I actually met these guys after they opened up for Pat Benetar at a local venue. I think they're pretty good for a bunch of Norwegian metal-heads.
Otherwise I would say a former local group called Clockwork Orange. Those guys were amazing. Wrote they're own stuff as well as covers of great stuff. The lead singer toured with Badfinger for a short time, then they all disappeared off the face of the earth.

Awesome group! With the exception of "Beds are Burning", I've never heard anything by them on mainstream radio, but many of their songs are in heavy rotation on XM's alternative rock stations.

Apparently, Midnight Oil is pretty huge in Australia. Their lead singer even tried (and almost won) a position in the Australian senate.
