I have been a long time fan of Rush and have to say that 2112 is the single best song for Rock Band, and I don't mean best Rush song. It would be challenging for all instruments and fun to boot. But as a whole the album would not work because of Tears, which only has drums in half the songs and even at that it's very simple, too simple.
A Farewell to kings is one of my least favorite of the classic Rush Albums, not to mention that Xanadu would translate poorly to Rock band, with the band sleeping for the first 2 minutes, and madrigals limited drums like Tears from 2112.
Hemispheres would probably be a close second, in my opinion, to 2112. If it were not for La Villa Strangiato being an instrumental it would be a great fit. Sadly the lack of vocals in one song would probably be enough to keep it out, just like the limited drums of the previous albums.
Fly By Night is also a great album, but it does show that it's only their second album and only the first with Peart. Sadly the inclusion of Rivendell would probably keep it from ever appearing in Rock Band, again because of the lack of drums.
So this only leaves one classic Rush concept album for inclusion in Rock Band, Caress Of Steel. This is a highly underrated album, that just happens to be perfect for Rock Band. It only spawned one single with any popularity, Bastille Day, but even with that limitation it contains some great songs. The Speed Of Bastille Day should keep the hard core players interested. The poppy sound of I Think I'm Going Bald should be accessible to the average player. The Syncopation of most of the drum tracks would be and welcome break from the less technical fast tracks challenging drummers so far. And last but certainly not least the 20 minute marathon that is The Fountain of Lamneth, with what would be the first true drum solo in the game, would make for one heck of a session.
Arguably the first Progressive Metal Album every produced, I have to endorse Caress of Steel as an Album which almost appears written specifically for Rock Band (if it were not 30 years older).

I would definitely love to see Caress of Steel in Rock Band. I like 2112 and Moving Pictures quite a bit when I got them in CD format. A great set of songs I listen to just about every other day. Though, when I got Caress of Steel I fell in love with that album. Fountain of Lamneth is my favorite song from that album, I like the concept and even in the beginning, it has the greatest feeling. A true epic in creation before your ears. The Necromancer is pretty good, the battle in the middle would be very fun to play.
I will say for Xanadu though, the guitarist isn't exactly sleeping doing a constant note pattern in the beginning. Though I won't deny that Caress of Steel would be awesome.

Also it's pleasant to know your a Rush fan Xero, didn't know by looking at your posts in the rock band discussion forum.
I wish to be a magician of words!
Yes the guitarist gets to do something for the first 2 minutes, and if the added some chimes the drummer would get to do something to, but I would call it exciting. I guess it wouldn't be that bad of a pick for a song, just happens that it's one of the few early songs I tend to skip because it bores me. But either way that album is probably a no go because of Madrigal's lack of drums and the album as a whole containing relatively few lyrics with long instrumental parts.
And I may be a Rush fan but there are lots of other music I like as well, though I do tend toward progressive music (check out my thread on Fair to Midland if you want to check out some modern progressive metal)
Have a little respect for those bands. There would be no Dream Theatre without them.
Also, there is a way to ask things without getting everybody angry. Just say:
"I'd see Dream Theatre" in this poll because ...
Next time, try doing that, people might consider you as a more intelligent person that way. I'm not saying your stupid, but you do seem idiot.
this thread is now fixed, and back in operation, gonna work on 3 next!
