    Thumbs up Doolittle!

It's about time for another Pixies tribute thread. Got anything to say about the album? Do it here!

As for me, part of my inspiration for starting this thread was, having just recently (read: right now) listened to the album, I noticed how awesome some of the rhythm guitar parts would be to play. Unfortunately, the lead guitar parts are always at least equally as awesome, although usually about five times simpler than the rhythm parts. What does this mean? I dunno! Say, in the song Dead, there's an awesome scaling rhythm part that would be amazing to play, but the lead wails away on that (very, very simple) guitar line. Is HMX gonna make you play lead through the whole song? I have no idea. Looking to Wave of Mutilation as precedent, they charted the lead guitar solo in the song, although it seemed like the obvious choice for that song. In my opinion, I couldn't say whether I'd rather play these lead or rhythm guitar parts. They're both awesome, in almost all of the songs. I'd honestly feel bad missing out on either part for certain songs. Maybe the best approach is a mish-mash of the parts, with lead guitar being considered as the focus of the charting, unless there's an obvious need to switch to rhythm.

I guess we'll find out soon!

This was the album I was most excited about when the full album DLC was first confirmed.
So many great songs on this album.
My friend and I used to sing "La La Love You" as schmaltzy as possible when we'd listen to this record, so that'll be fun to do in the game.
I can't wait to sing and play guitar with 'Here Comes Your Man' especially.

On the section you describe in Dead, I expect we'll be playing lead because that's the core hook of the song.

This album is going to work so well for this game, it has strong rhythm sections (on songs like Tame and Bleed I am as excited about playing bass as I am about playing guitar), and very distinct, pronounced melodies.

I don't enjoy playing songs where its harder to hear each distinct part in the band. That is not going to be a problem on this album.

This is the place where I'm supposed to name the song I'm most excited about playing, but I can't narrow it down to one, or even half a dozen.

Well said. And I agree with your enthusiasm about the equilibrium of awesomeness for the whole band in this album. I've never been excited about singing any song, let alone a group of songs, other than these. And the bass lines - often easy, almost never dull. Drums have that little extra that'll make em translate perfectly into an interesting drum chart.

And I'm listening to Gouge Away right now, from 0:15 to 0:28 Francis hums a little melody behind the plucking guitars I've never noticed before. I like it!

In a lot of songs, Reptilia being the one that leaps to mind first, you switch between lead and rhythm.

APPARENTLY WE CAN'T POST YOUTUBE VIDEOS ANYMORE. HUH. AWESOME.

You play the main riff twice, switch to the chordfest rhythm guitar, then move back to the main riff.

All I can say about doolittle is that you'll always be playing a fun line.
