Guys, there's one important thing to remember here; there are other places to get master recordings of this stuff other than the actual "master" 24 track tapes. Who's Next is one of those records that has seen so many different iterations, so many releases and re-releases (a deluxe edition was recently remastered several years ago) that there are certainly a myriad of places to go for the source material.

True, there's no way to create an accurate 5.1 mix without every recorded track, but the songs in Rock Band are NOT mixed in 5.1. The game certainly is- sound effects, etc, but most of the music comes out of the front channel speakers. Rest assured there's gotta be some type of digital or analog copy in some MCA vault somewhere in the world that Harmonix can/will used if they didn't get to it before the theft. There just has to be.

It's important to keep in mind that the term "Master Recording" is relative when used for RB or GH in that it's used to separate the source recording from the actual band licensed for the game, and the covers that were created later on. I doubt that labels or individual artists would willingly hand over the genuine master tapes to some of these staple songs and let some crazy developers have their way with them. Nah, I wouldn't worry too much about this.

It certainly has to be big and satisfying, otherwise they just would have just told us from the get go that some songs were missing, then given us what was left. Obviously, given the statement from Rigopolous, they have plans and they should be good, which means either:

    1. Who mega-pack of available master tracks with possible covers where necessary.
    2. Who's Next with some covers of missing songs plus a bunch of Who songs as a peace offering
    3. Re-recordings of missing tracks from Who's Next by Pete & Roger
    4. Re-recordings of many key Who tracks by Pete & Roger

For all we know, the masters could have been discovered missing because someone was sent to bring them out of the vault for HMX's use- but they couldn't be found.

So both parties, HMX + The Who, made a deal in good faith, but then were left in a jam.

I'm leaning towards a new set of songs that had to be renegotiated, in light of the new information.

Well, let's think about what they would need for Baba O'Reilly in RB:

    1. Guitar track
    2. Bass track
    3. Vocal track
    4. Left hand drum track
    5. Right hand drum track
    6. Bass pedal track
    7. Synthesizer track (so it's not mixed on the same track as anything else)
    8. Violin track

Wouldn't that be enough for a 5.1 mix?

What I'm saying is that they wouldn't have to separate the tracks into into 5 (+.1) individual channels. They'd be making what is more or less a stereo mix from an existing stereo mix. Obviously not the best alternative, but I'd take that over a crappy cover any day.

If you want to find something out about HMX you'll get way more information from Rumour threads and other sites.

damn this really sucks, after simple man finally came out the only reason i tuned in every friday was to possibly see that who's next is finally coming but if you think about it, HMX F***ed up, the game was released almost a year ago but then they said who's next would be coming out, so the question is why would HMX do this and not check there facts? possibly more money, or just to get us on to get on the website.
